u,,,,f Winter Play The Butterflies Return for the War Children The butterflies returned to Pren- tiss Brown Auditorium for the winter drama production of The War Chil- dren. The program dealt with the plight of the Jewish people during I-iitler's regime and consisted of two one-act dramas based on actual occurances during World War II. It succeeded in revealing the tragedy we could be under should there be another World War. The first play, The Raft of Medu- sa, by George Kaiser, a post-war playwright, is the story of thirteen school children who were evacuated from a war-torn city and set adrift in a lifeboat after their boat was tor- pedoed. The second play, I Never Saw Another Butterfly, was the true story of Raja Enlanderova, a Jewish girl who survived Terezin, a Nazi concen- tration camp, and returned to share her experiences in a series of flash- backs beginning With the German in- vasion of Prague. The War Children was directed by Judith Sutton. There was special aide with the lighting and sound pro- vided by Mildred Henderson and Pat Huss of San Jose State. Bill Peck, a former Saratoga High School stu- dent, who now works with A.C.T. professional theatre aided in the act- ing coaching. The production was undoubtedly a moving and unforgetable experi- ence. -Adrienne Cordova

Bands arching Band Wins Again and Again 'Presenting the 190 piece Sara- toga High School Marching Band un- der the direction of Craig Northrup with drum majors Steve Belomy and Regan Davis! ' The band filled the field of the Oakland Coliseum on No- vember 16, 1976, featured at the Oakland Raiders - Cleveland Browns game. Unfortunately, though hoped, the half-time show wasn't televised. Another big moment for the band was at the Los Gatos Parade. They won the highest award in band com- petition, the Sweepstakes trophy. Junior Jan Van Over said, tPeople were very disappointed when they announced first place to another band. But, it was exciting because we never expected to winl' Senior William Hilton summed it up by saying, 'We won! We wonl' That's a good way to sum up the entire march- ing season. -Marybeth Travis OPPOSITE PAGE, TOP: Saratoga High School Marching Band struts down the streets of the village during Saratoga's annual parade.
