I enjoy working with young athletesg helping them set and achieve goals can be very re- warding. Through athletics, a person is able to express openly his whole personality- mentally, physically, and emotionally. A basic need of human beings is to freely express themselves. In sports one can do that and learn a lot about real life situa- tions. I can't think of anything else th at offers both opportunities. -Mike Devine There's no other place in the world like a girls' locker room. The innocent solitude found in amongst row upon row of small metal boxes makes no allusion to the chaos that is usually discovered here. With the first hint of fall, the doors burst open and giggily, gossipy bodies push their way in, destined to turn the peaceful building into a re- markable simulation of a funny farmf' Within three weeks, the mad- house is in full swing. A few girls run in late, literally tear the clothes off their bodies, and throw on the stand- ard outfit. They continuously ask how long before they had made their entrance had the bell rung. Then, there are those girls who refuse to remember to bring their clean p.e. clothes back on Monday. They end up borrowing bits and pieces from everyone. The shorts are twenty times too large, ballooning out about five inches around each leg. The rest of the outfit doesnit come much closer to fitting, but dressed in these collations of mis- matched garments they will report to class. About ten minutes before the end

They enter redfaced and tired. As each complains or brag about whether or not her team was successful, p.e. clothers are being stripped off. Everyone must keep her eyes open so as not to get hit by a flying can of deodorant. The whole locker room begins to reek with the smell of Arid Extra Dry. 4'Gossiping resumes as the girls struggle to pull their pants on with- out getting the cuffs wet in the pud- dles left on the floor by girls taking swimming. As the end of the period nears, there is a wild confusion of, 'Help I can 't be late to my next class, I've got three tardies in there,' and the like. The girls dash out of the locker room and to their next classes. i'Within a few minutes, these girls are replaced by another shift who will bring the same chaos all over again to the once quiet building. -Karen Bassett
