' 1 srM W , ,A V -■ .jy ' , ; ' ' i ' V .r Ojr --- A saRAtOQA centRAl high school SARAtoQA, noRth cAROlma 1968 4 PoReWORC) Many dreams and trials are composed in a year. For each person a certain longing or hope is bom every morn, matures during noon, and dies at eve. As in a circus, we are constantly moving about in three rings— the home, the school, and fantasy. This yearbook, the SENTINEL, records the events in the circus ring at school. Circus time! The Big Top, the parade of lions, trumpeting elephants, laughing clowns, prancing horses, beautiful girls, sensational acts, the grand finale! All of this and more. Yet, in the circus, as in school, many hours of training make the difference between a polished performance and a mediocre one. But under the Big Top at Saratoga Central High School, excitement paralleled the training and the hard work— elections, honors, certain seniors riding high, a merry-go-round of club activities, sports and school spirit — all become a part of the performance. One could not take each individual, listing his expectations and his failures, his successes and defeats. The purpose of this book is to present the accomplishments of the student body as a whole. The SENTINEL is a collection of these events, a collection of students, each different, yet essential to the make-up of this school. For each student we hope this annual brings to you the memories of past school happenings that be- come more precious as they end and disappear. And if this annual succeeds as the grand finale of a circus, we are content. 6 the RingmasteR Mr. Alvin Narron Principal In the Spotlight Each of us seeks someone to turn to in a time of need, trouble, doubt, or worry. A very special person whom we have turned to has never failed to answer a cry for aid. She gives of herself unselfishly and patiently with a gentleness possessed by few. She lends to one the mildness and quiet radiance that is born within her. And never does she request a gift in return— except maybe a smile or a prayer. As we journey in the finale about the sawdust ring, bowing and murmuring quiet gratitudes, let us pause for a moment before this person. Let us look into her face and say with truth, Thank You, Miss Woodard, our teacher, our counselor, our friend. 6eC)icAtion feAtuRe6 AttRACtions faculty Activities Outstanding SeniORS Athletics AdveRtisements It’s All in James Gilmer Lloyd English John E, Perry Agriculture Miss Charlotte Bordeaux Mathematics Mrs. Joyce P. DEPOSIT INSURANCE CORPORATION 85 86 1 ' ' - w i m V epilogue It has been a long journey since last September when the annual staff first met to begin recording the activities of Saratoga Central High School for 1967-1968. We began as an enthusiastic group; we had many new ideas and deep-rooted aspirations. Our group was determined to make the 1968 SENTINEL the best ever. It was only through the combined efforts of a large number of people that this book has been published. Many individuals have made valuable contributions in compiling it. I, in serving as editor, could not have asked for more cooperation than I have received. I would like to recognize some of those who are responsible for this annual. First of all I would like to express mydeepest appreciation to Mrs. Joyce Beaman and Miss Anne Stanton. Their efforts as advisors to the annual staff have been invaluable. Thanks go to Mr. Bob Aiken, our photographer, who has spent many hours taking pictures for this year ' s SENTINEL. Too, we appreciate the use of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Webb ' s home when making the pictures of the outstanding seniors. Deep gratitude for a job well done goes to Ann Williford, Assistant Editor; to Susan Ellis, Business Man- ager; and Edna Murray, Assistant Business Manager. Alice Lillian Beddingield and Betty Harrell, JuniorClass Representatives, and Rexamie Dawson, Sophomore Class Representative, have also given their time and efforts to the yearbook production. These, then, are the recorders of this past year ' s history of Saratoga Central High School. These people should receive much of the credit for this annual; however, I should like to thank the entire student body for its cooperation and for the privilege of working with you and for you. It has been an invaluable experience.
