Captain George Commander, Carrier Air Wing 173 Captain George N. Crim, Jr. was bom in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in Washington, D.C. He attended Georgetown University, where he majored in political science. After completing Aviation Officer Candidate School in November 1968, he was designated a Naval Flight Officer in June 1969. Captain Crim's initial assignment was with RHAV-I4 on board USS JOHN F. KENNEDY, where he qualified as a Reconnaiaaance Attack Navigator. Upon completion of his tour, he retumed to Pensacola, Florida for flight training and was designated a Naval Aviator at NAS Meridian, Mississippi in September 1972. Captain Crim's first tour as a pilot was with VA-155 operating off USS ORISKANY, flying the A-7B. After sewing a tour as instructor in VA-125, he reported as a fleet replacement pilot to VA-122, transitioning to the A-7E Corsair II. After completing carrier qualifications he reported to VA-93 on board USS MIDWAY, homeported in Yokusuka, Japan. During that tour USS MIDWAY made four Indian Ocean deployments, and was on station in the Indian Ocean when the initial seizure of the American Embassy in Tehran took place. In January l98 l , Captain Crim joined VX-5 at NWC China Lake, California where he was the Operational Test Director for the ALR-45FlAPR-43 radar warning receivers, and the AGM-88 HARM missile program. Following that short tour he reported to Commander, Training Air Wing l, NAS Meridian, Mississippi where he served as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of Training Squadron 19. In August 1983, he again reported to VA-l22 for A-7E refresher training and in December of that year joined the Blue Diamonds of VA- 146 as Execu- tive Officer. ' . Following his fleet tour in November 1986, Captain Crim attended the senior course at the Naval War College in Newport, Rl, where he also earned a Masters Degree in General Management. In December 1987, he reported to Commander, Light Attack Wing, U.S. Pacific Fleet staff, and in March 1988 assumed command of the Flying Eagles of VA-122. In August 1989, Captain Crim joined the Staff of Connnander, Carrier Group 3 aboard USS CARL VIN SON where he served as Operations Officer until June l99l. Captain Crim has accumulated over 4400 flight hours including 3200 in the A-7 and has logged over 800 carrier landings. His decorations include three Meritorious Service Medals, a Navy Commendation Medal, two Navy Unit Commendations, three Meritorious Unit Commendations, three Navy Expeditionary Medals and various other awards. Captain Crim currently resides in Orange Park, FL with his wife, the fonner Deborah Lynn On' of Dalton, Georgia, and their children Matt, Scotty and Mandy. -WN. .
