ii it Carrier Qualifications reauire students. pilots, and new or expe- rienced veterans. to fly approaches over the carrier and then land on or trap on the ship, Every pilot must oecome Carrier Qualified prior to deployment Student aviators must successfully land a T-2 Buckeye aircraft on the Saratoga's deck four times to earn their wings and oe designated naval aviators Advanced students must successfully land their A-A Skyhawk aircraft six times After students earn their wings, they go to a Replacement Air Group QRAGD. There they train to fly a particular aircraft, During RACE Carrier Quals. it's the first time they'll land that particular aircraft at night. They need to successfully complete six traps. For experienced pilots, Carrier Quals involve making two suc- cessful day traps and two daytime touch and go's in the aircraft in which they are qualified, Carrier Qualifications involve putting highly complicated and demanding skills to use.
