He mode two Mediterroneon deployments oboord the USS Roosevelt QCVA-423. From August 1974 until November 1976, Coptoin Chopmon served os Flog Secretory ond Aide to the Superintendent, U.S. Novol Academy. He loter served os o Personol Aide to the Chief of Novol Operotions. Q' so ' Commander Curtiss W. Schantz. a native of San Diego. California, gradu- ated from the US. Naval Academy and received his commission in June 1968. He reported to Pensacola. Florida, for aviation training in April 1969 and was designated a naval aviator in December 1970. Commander Schantz's next assignment was as an aerodynamic missile analyst at the Naval Intelligence Support Center, Washington, DC. ln January 19741, following replacement pilot training in the F-A aircraft. Commander Shantz reported to VF-102. Subsequent Mediterranean de- ployments were made aboard the USS independence CCV-623. From August 1976 to October 1978 he was assigned to an exchange tour with the US. Air Force flying the F-AE. Following this assignment, he reported to VF-101. He served as the squadrons Administrative Ofncer and later Executive Officer. During this period he transitioned to the F-14. ln August 1983, Commander Schantz reported to VF- 1A where he served as Executive Officer and Commanding Ofhcer until April 1986. On October 23, 1986. following flight training in the A-7 and A-6 aircraft, he reported as Deputy Commander, Carrier Air Wing Seventeen. i2foEPcAe fp
