O7,EOU'O'Z HERE seem to be two reasons for publishing a booklet on the Cruise of the U. S. S. SARATOGA 1936? In the jfrst place, Crossing the Line for the first time in a Bluejackefs career is an event of note. A proper record should be made. In the second place, if a man's correspondence or letters to the home folks represent the story of his Cruise, this booklet may well supplement your letters with pic- tures and additional information. ds the Ships of the Fleet steamed northward, quarters for muster were held on the flight deck Sunday morning, May thirty-first. At that time the Commanding Officer of the Saratoga congratulated all hands on their conduct in Panama and throughout the Cruise. This modest story of sefveral phases of the Cruise may serve to help you recall the splendid conduct for which these congratulations were offered. For assistance in helping to collect material we wish to express our appreciation to the editorial stajf of 'fplane Talkv, the Sh1'p's weekly news sheet,' to L. W. Goodnight, Chief Photographer and the men of the photographic laboratoryj to the yeomen who compiled the long list of Shellbacks and Pollywogsj and to C. O. Cotant, Ylc of Slzipfv Se'r'1'1'rc A cti'viti es. R. W. SI-IREM. Chaplain, lf. S. .Y11-1'-Y.
