i L'Envoi HE last phase of our 1936 Cruise began when the Fleet weighed anchor in Panama Bay, May twenty-sixth for California home ports. Enroute ' h north a number of exercises Were held including both day and mg t praci tices During recreational hours, exercise on the llight deck and lots of ' h d sun bathing were enjoyed, with movies on the hangar deck at nig t an Divine Service Sunday. Cn lVIemorial Day, May 30th, honors were ren- dered by the firing of twenty-one guns at minute intervals at noon. But even Cruises come to an end. The Saratoga launched her planes as We approached San Diego, Saturday morning, June 6th. Shortly there- after, the Ship came to anchor to unload cargo and disembark squadron personnel. After customs inspection We steamed out of Coronado Roads. Long Beach Was reached the same evening. The long line of blinking shore lights, the glow from city clusters and the colored array from the so-called Pike, united to extend awarm welcome. Liberty call brought hundreds of men to the Quarter Deck and it was not long until oflicers and men Were ashore with families and friends. Wie had been away from April twenty-third to June sixth. Another Battle Problem was solved, another Cruise was history. All thanked God for a safe return to the homeland.
