The main work of the DCT this year was entertaining the state convention 'April 17-19 when about 300 delegates came to the city for their annual meeting. Social features included a fish fry, banquet and dance at Lido Casino. Contests of various kinds were held at the Golf Street auditorirun Friday and Saturday. To raise funds a radio was raffled off, and advertising- for programs was secured by Paul Jenkins and George Teeters. The club managed a booth and concession at the fair in March. George Teeters won second place on extemporaneous speaking at the dis- trict meeting lSixty-fourl .94

ix QA 152525 VOLTAIRE STVRGIS Director The Sarasota High School Band retLu'ned from St. Petersburg with eight first, five second and three third division ratings in the Florida state band competition. Funds were raised to send the band to Richmond, Va., for the national festival in May. Honors won by the Sarasota Band: Division one-band drill, Erwin Gremli, clarinet: Sara Baccus, clarinetg Elva Warner, clarinetg Harriet Sturgis, clarinet, and Jack Hursey, drums: clari- net quartet no. 1. Erwin Germli, Sara Baccus, Fred Angers and Agnes Pritchard, brass sextet, Raymond Esthus, Julian Bennett, George Moore, Ben McCall, Lorne Ford and Wallace Bennett. Division two-band concert, Ann Treadwell, twirlerg Sue Mowery, twirlerg Amy Jane Routier, twirler: clarinet quartet no. 2, Harriet Sturgis, Elva Warner, Joy Philpot and Agnes Pritchard. Division three-band. sight reading F'aubel Camp- bell and Bob Hillstone. Members of the Sarasota High School Band participated in the national regional band contest in Richmond, Va., and won honors as follows: First division-Sue Mowery, Ann Treadwell and Amy Jane Routier. baton twirlers.
