RED AND WHITE Almost ten years ago a small news-sheet made its debut to the students of Saranac Lake High School. lt was called the Red and White, and ever since that day our paper h:s grown both in size and influence until now it has taken a prominent place in extra-curricular activities. Perhaps we should name some of those students who have given of their talent in days gone by to make the newspaper a success but to name a few would do injustice to others who have worked without glory. However, be- cause there has always been the best kind of team work, the paper has won several third place awards in the annual contests of the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and this year was awarded second place. The publication has also been affiliated with the Cornell lnterscholastic Press Association. Though we work to win high ratings in these yearly contests, the real achievements of our newspaper cannot be measured in typographical excel- lence. The real yardstick is this: What sort of influence has the Red and White had upon its readers? Has it always instructed and inspired? Has it been the voice of its readers, and most important has it been the means of bringing into closer relationship the teacher and student? If it has, then the editor and staff feel amply rewarded for their effort. Next year a new staff will guide the paper through ten issues of print, We have selected these people with care and we hand over the Red and White to them, with the hope that it will be the finest paper ever seen in the school.
