Mrs. Irvin, Well Miss You! For the past twenty-eight years SHS has been fortunate enough to have a great lady to encourage, push, and instruct the students. And now after these many years of devotion and toil, Mrs. Irvin has retired. Some may wish for money, some may wish for fame, but composition students wish for such a statement from Mrs. Irvin as My, what nice descriptive words you use! Many struggling writers have received the criticism, advice, and much-needed praise from her to make the struggle worthwhile. As Chairman of the English Department, Mrs. Irvin has pushed hard and worked long organizing the new nine-week English courses. She was not only the English Department Chairman, but also sponsored Horizon Club two years. Pep Club five years, and National Honor Society seven years. Senior Assembly writers and participants would tell you what a must she has been to them. Mrs. Irvin, the must of innumerable areas of SHS life, will be irreplaceable. Asked for a message, Mrs. Irvin quoted Shakespeare: I could be well content To entertain the lag-end of my life With quiet hours. I hope my ‘quiet hours' are filled with glowing reports of the accomplishments of SHS students throughout the world. My reward will be that, perhaps, I had a small part in that accomplishment.
