Junior members, Carl Newton, Steve McCormick, Larry Shelton, Wiley Smith, Kay Donaldson, Regina Roe, Carol Stephens, Rita Vanatta, Lynne Luker, Debbie Wright, and Gayle Woodrell, review the agenda before the meeting. Miss Kathleen Owen helps Mrs. Irvin and some other students understand a point of parliamentary procedure at the Leadership Workshop. Sophomore members, Jim Hodges, Doug Joseph, Tommy Brown, John Young, Mary Brown, Kittie Cantrell, Carol James, Glenda Luker, Linda Eaton, and Ginger Brown study their student council minutes. 29

Student Council Creates an Understanding At the September installation assembly, Mr. Cockrum presents torches of responsibility to new officers . .. President John Hodges, Vice-President Wiley Smith, Secretary Pam McCrory, Treasurer Jeane White, Student Council offers all students at SHS a chance to participate in a working Democracy. Through such projects as Howdy Week, the Snack Bar, and Christmas Door Decorations Contest, the council functions under real problems. Parliamentary procedure is applied at the meetings to act on the many proposals brought to the council by the homeroom representatives. In between meetings much of the work is done through committees. Carl Newton directs other council members in a communication experiment, while sponsors, Mr. Farrell and Miss Fisher watch. Senior members, John Hodges, Dennis Shelton, Connie Davis, Linda Lee, Ronnie Moore, Dona Gaasch, Jeane White, Cindy Howard, Pam McCrory, and Sylvia Myles, study a proposal to amend the council's constitution. 28

Youth Harvey Grimes, Connie Mose, Patti Hayes, Diane Atkinson, Cindy Howard, Bob Berry, Jeane White, Jeanne Giacomo, Roseann O'Brien, Jan Stuart, and Gary Smith are Senior Board members. Lynne Luker, Jack Clark, Alan Jones, Brooks Bingman, Theresa Delong, Johnette Guilfoyle, Sammie Paxton, Sally Livermore, and Kay Mathews are Junior members of the Youth Board.
