1-11 Pride is both fortification and force. Standing Proud means supporting one's beliefs, loyalties and institutions with this phenomenal power in such a way that its force is felt by others . The phrase standing proud immediate- ly brings to mind the following quote by President Theodore Roosevelt. It was quoted often by President john Kennedy and in my estimation puts forth an excellent philosophy of life. In the battle of life it is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbled, or where the doer of the deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arenag whose face is marred by dust and sweat and bloodg who strives valiantlyg who errs and comes short again and again be- cause there is no effort without error and shortcomingsg who does actually strive to do the deeds 3 who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievementg and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those timid souls who have never tasted neither victory nor defeat.
