following up on December 19, The ultimate goal for a student council of any school is to con- cern itself totally with extracurricular activities for students. ln this day and age, many times it is extremely difficult to get total involvement of a student for activities the student council is con- cerned With. lt is this that makes student council either a success or a failure. lt is for this reason that student council must grasp the mood and tendencies of students contained on this campus. Find out what the student body enjoys and what it dislikes. Con- centrate on programs and events that seem popular to all and the support will be there. I am grateful for being a part of student council and its successes and failures this year. Hom eroom HC Assembly Cops Week Today, October 25, marks the completion of the annual Homecoming Week of Santiago. Student events took place Monday through Friday, and points were allotted to those classes who came on top in their prospective activities. Monday found four boy-girl teams competing in a pie-eating contest in which all contestants were blindfolded. Ten points were bestowed upon the winning couple. Tuesday found the Freshmen battling the Sophomores and the Juniors taking the Seniors on in a 10-man tug-a-war. The contest was decided over a pool of mud. Each class constructed human pyramids Wendesday in the grass section of the quad. Thursday, the students were engaged in a race through an obstacle course on any vehicle which consisted of a toilet seat. Fifty points were given to the winner, and 25 to the sexiest decorated one. Today rounded out the activities of the week. A turtle race was staged in the quad. First to reach the outer edge of the circle was the winner. Ten points were awarded. After 6th period today in the quad Santiago will hold its Homecoming Assembly. The theme for the assembly will be based upon the Laugh-In . All students are urged to attend. to Vote on New ASB Constitution Santiago Spirit High As Yuletide Season Arrives Commencing December 9, and tickets will be 25c cheaper. The band will be the Santiago will launch its annual Toy Drive. Heading a Student Council committee, seniors, Tom Heierle and Lisa Nomiyama will be co. chairmen of the drive, During homeroom period every day, money and toys will be collected. Toys may be used, but must be in good condition For each dollar collected, the rooms will be awarded 100 points. Whichever homeroom accumulates the most points, an undetermined prize will be awarded. All proceeds from the drive will be donated to the Orange County Medical Center, which deals mainly with cerebral palsy. Anyone wishing to help put forth their effort to make this toy drive a big success, should contact Lisa or Tom. Lisa adds hopefully, We're going to strive to make this toy drive better than last year's. The senior class is sponsoring a Christmas Dance the 14th of next month. It will be held in the bovs gym from 8-11:30. The price will be 75c with an ASB card and 51.50 without, presale Fournteenth Americans and it will be their first appearance at Santiago. School dress s required at the dance, also there will be prizes and various types of contests. Jan Wheatley, senior class president says, The senior class is working diligently to make it a great success and to be enjoyed by all Cavaliers. Santiago's annual Christmas assembly will be held Dec. 19 during a single assembly in the gym. The theme of the assembly is Moods of Christmas. The scene will be a house which will be transformed in various ways to show how different people spend Christmas Eve. 'I'he committee in charge of the assembly consists of Sue Darst, Bobbie Chiapetta, Patti Schuyler, Ruth Cary, Jackie Parker, Debbie Bess, Carol Doyle, Sandy Moye, Corine Bradshaw, Michelle Mitchell, Leslie Settles, Carol Smith, and Chris Weisner. The groups and clubs assisting are the play production class, ensemble, art club, Girls' League modern dance, and drill team.
