A potluck dinner is given at the first of the year to get the girls acquainted with fellow members of the league, and to promote friendship among them. In order to raise money, Girls' League initiated Hush Day in which the girls bought Hush Cards and were not allowed to speak to any boys. If a girl did slip, the boy she spoke to signed her card. Ronnie Inman signed the most cards this year and was crowned Mr. Irresist- able. Girls' League activities come to a climax at the Co-ed dance to which the girls invite the boys. 30

Cabinet Ever Wonder where issues are introduced, how activities are planned before going to Student Council, or how pep assemblies are organized? Well take a peek into room 301 third period and you vvillfind what seems like a swarm of bees flying in all directions. In actuality, a cabinet meet- ing is in session and members are individually working on a project that will in some Way benefit Santiago. Cabinet consists of members who are chosen by the newly elected stu- dent body officers at the end of each year, and the presidents of each class. lt is at its meetings that ideas are exchanged, and finally combined into activities and issues. All expenditures of Santiago's funds are initiated or approved in cabinet before they come before student council. BOARD OF CONTROL Did you see the mysterious footprints in the corridors? Well don't let them fool you. They're merely a reminder from the Board of Control to keep right and avoid collision in the crowded Santiago passageways. The board members of Board of Control are chosen by the newly elected student body officers at the end of each year. Commissioners volunteer, and are then chosen according to their competence, behavior and scholastic standing. Board of Control has the responsibility of keeping the conduct of Santiago's student body in accordance with its rules and regulations. Reminders, such as those in the corridors, are usually all that are needed to make students conform to the rules, but in extreme cases demerits are given to inspire proper manners while students are on campus. If a student accumulates sixteen demerits, he is automatically suspended, upon re-entrance fourteen more demerits result in expulsion. Board members are from left to right: Randy Cobb, Barbara Read, Chris Conley, Marilyn Miura, Mel Sherer.
