Awards Terri Nagurski MOST OUTSTANDING DRAMA STUDENT Herb Brosbe MOST OUTSTANDING SPEECH STUDENT Trophies were pre- sented tothe outstanding speech student and the outstanding drama stu- dent of the year. These awards were presented on the basis of ability in the respective areas and service to the school through participation in these areas. This year, Herb Brosbe was honored as the outstanding speech student of the year and Terri Nagurski as the outstanding drama stu- dent. SERVICE POINT AWARDS Service point awards this year went to the following: FIRST ROW: Ardith DuMars, Brenda Bowles, Veva Del Pearson, Jane Lambert, Marilyn Miura, Flo Sherer, Cheryl Henley, Kathy Macek. A Waltz Dream, a three-act operetta writ- ten by Oscar Straus, was presented by the vocal de- partmenton May l8 in the Garden Grove High School Auditorium. The play concerned a great king, his daughter, the princess, and an army lieutenant who, against his wishes, was ordered to marry the princess. The young lieutenant makes matters worse by falling in love with an American cafe singer. Starring in the operetta were Penni Mays, the American cafe singer, Tanna Clark, the princess, Paul Perry, the lieutenantg and Jay Fair, the king. Directed by Mr. LeNoir Asay, Mr. Charles Wes- tra, Mr. Jess May, and Mrs. Louella Fong, Santiago's first operetta was viewed by an audience of approxi- mately l000 people. Dream Junior Play An Evening of One Act Plays was presented by the junior class, April 26 and 27 in the Garden Grove High School Auditorium. The Happy Journey, the first of the three plays, was a comical adventure of a family taking a trip to visit their mar- ried daughter. It was directed by Terri Nagurski and starred Eydie Carey, Linda Shipman, Buford Schmieder, and Tim Mauldin. The second play, So Wonderful, was a serious drama concerning student nurses. The all-girl cast was directed by Terry Bowen and featured Terri Na- gurski, Jackie Roberts, Mary Ann Threat and Sue Seyler. The Ugly Duckling, a fairy-tale taking place in a make-believe kingdom, was the third play of the evening. It concerned the problems of a royal family trying to find someone to marry their unattractive daughter. This play was directed by Barbara Shannon and fea- tured Linda Cammack, Claud Ferguson, Karen Titus, Tom Deely, Pete Gianara- kos, and Terry Dunn. I

...QQ Bobby Rodriquez Carol Weishapl MOST COURTEOUS CAVALIER CAVALIER OE THE YEAR The second annual Awards Assembly was held to provide recognition for Cavaliers who have been active in student affairs at Santiago. Among the awards which were presented were the Principal's Award, Cavalier of the Year Award, Most Courteous Cavalier Award, and Service Point Awards. Awards were also presented to outstanding students from the English, science, business, math, and home- making departments. Also, the seal bearers and scholars of the third quarter were pre- sented. ai' Carolyn Janssen PRINCIPAL'S AWA RD Among the awards presented at the sec- ond annual Awards Assembly was the Prin- cipal's Award, an award to be established as a tradition in the years to come. This award is presented to a senior on the basis of contribution and serv- ice to the school. The winner ofthis award is chosen solely by the principal of Santiago. This year's recipientof the Principal's Award was Carolyn Janssen.
