antiago's f I tl PRINCIPAL Dr. Carl Heinz iie?MW,3?X3,EiM3Z5 I X I I dministratiojnyy x . 4. -, It '3 fpleasure that I take the o portunity t in duce the second volume of the Santiago i School year book, LE CHEVALIER. I want to compliment the annual staff and Miss Pritchard for the outstanding work they have done to make this fine book possible. I should like to review our schoolhistory with you briefly. Mostofyou know that Santiago High carrie into being on September 11, 1961 when 1541 students reported for classes at the Bolsa High School campus where we were in double session. Construction of our new campus was sufficiently advanced that we were able to hold classes on our own campus on November 27, 1961 for the first time. Many precedents are being established. The academic achievements of the Cavaliers are recognized by the various scholastic organiza- tions throughout the state and na tion. Our Cava- lier athletic teams are recognized as strong con- tenders in both the Crestview League and the CIF. The Music, Speech and Drama Depart- ments have won their share of recognition for outstanding performance. Santiago High School has been accredited by both the University of California and the Western Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges. This enables any student graduating from Santiago High and having completed his college entrance courses with a sufficiently high grade to be ad- mitted without taking many basic courses at the University level that are necessary from some other school graduates. Our total school spirit is improving and can improve a great deal more by each Cavalier givinghis wholehearted support to all the activities going on. Remember the opportunities are here at Santiago High, and it is up to each one of you how well you succeed in taking advantage of them. DR. CA RL HEINZ

fit I VICE-PRINCIPAL DEANS: Mrs. Nellie Burchfiel fgirls'J and in charge of attendance Mr. Joe Riedel office and Mr. George Gill Cboys'D and in charge of student activities. It is the concern of the administration to advise and direct the student body of Santiago toward good citizenship and manners. However, our administrators strive to advise and assist rather than order and apply harsh rules without consideration of the students, but they also demand respect which they have and must require to run ef- ficiently a school such as ours. With the co-operation of the student body, our administrators can make Santiago a school to be proud of, and one which is a pleasure to attend. They have made it a point to try to understand the student problems. We are grateful for this consideration that is shown us, and We must always strive to deserve it.
