' Already I know I'Il repeat the words. Like exchange students say, it's a different country, a fast country and a country where you can have fun. I'll never forget your football games, dances, Jack-in-the-box twhat a bom. . .I and your drive-ins. A big thing to tell the guys about at home. Sultans, its because of you. It was hard in the beginning. It seemed that people had to mind their own business. The cooler you are the better. Five minutes between class is too short. How can you make friends here. Now I can see that's just your way of life. But I made it and that's because of the I-Club. I want to thank you very much especially one guy, Micheal Essary, you're just wonderful. So many thanks, MIKE! At last I want to say that we in Denmark don't know what school spirit is. I do now. It means something you can be proud of, something for you and me. Keep it that way Sultans. I'm proud of being a Sultan. Thanks for that to my family, Steveson's, my teachers and you my friends. Thank you. The best wishes, Nick Buch Thomsen Fasanvej 10 5550 Hangeshaw Denmark Dear Sultans. As I arrived at the airport my first thought was: IIHow can I ever get used to this . I saw the freeways, the new and big buildings and other things, quite different from home. I got adjusted to most everything and I can thank my wonderful family, the Rankins, for that. About the school I can say I find it great. I've received, much kindness and I didn't expect that because of the size. The school I came from has 900 students, but Santana students seems to have much more warmth than any of these 900. Thanks to Santana, I'm really happy that I came to this school. I would like to thank the I-club, they've been a big help to me and I'm glad Santana has such a good I-club. I had never heard of an I-club before I came here, but I'd like to make an I-club at my school. I'd also like to thank the I.C.X. who has given me the opportunity to have this experience. This will be one of the greatest experiences of my life. Once again I'd like to thank you, Sultans, for being so wonderful to me. Visit me if you should go to Denmark. I'd love to see you again. Dear Sultans, Sitting at my desk in my new home, I'm thinking about what I could write in the yearbook. Should I write about my first day, when we were just on the way home from the airport. We stopped by the McDonalds and ordered a lunch without even getting out of the car, and I thought to myself: Is this the easy way of America? Or should I write about the beach party, where I got another shock . The shock was, how we solved the problem to get sticks for our hot dogs. We used hangers!!! I could write about the registration in school which was really strange for me. These three happenings are only a selection out of other shocks . A lot of things are absolutely new. In Switzerland, we don't have a drive-thru McDonalds or Jack-in-the Box. We are used to going out to a Restaurant and spending one or two hours there with eating and talking. Our school system has 9 years required school and all subjects are required too. I would wish for all of you that you would have the chance to go abroad too. I'm still at the beginning of my American year, and I already thank all the people that helped me. If you ever hang around in Switzerland please do come to see me. ' 3 5 ' , g -,.A uf., Q E, M .IV ,vm :mr D .ig M Dear Sultans, I come from the country of Turkey where the Sultan had once lived long ago. The Sultan image, whether it be big or small to others, for me, to see something which is close to my culture would make any exchange student from Turkey feel comfortable. When I first came I didn't know that the word turkey means stupid in American slang. It was so funny to learn this after going to Parkway Plaza with a shirt which said A.F.S. Turkey on it. I thought that everything would be different than my country, I saw that I was right. The freeways and cheerleaders were different and new for me, especially I had a hard time getting used to the advertisements which kept interrupting the news and movies on T.V. There aren't any activities, games or dances in Turkish schools because of economic and cultural reasons. But everything we do here, had to do with school. The lessons and teachers aren't very hard either. On the first couple of days in such a big school I felt very alone, but now I have many good friends, I am very happy. I appreciate very much the I club for their helpful friendship. So I like my school a lot. I will never forget my AFS year and you, Sultans for all my life. , Zeynep Mece Cankiri Cad Maliye Meslek sok. No 5f2 Ulus-Ankara!Turkey Q ma, few .M tn WI 'S W r ww-www.,-
