TEN YEHRS RFTER Homecoming 74 was unusual to say the least. Upon entering the gates it started to rain. Before the end of the second quarter there was a big down pour. The Santana Marching Band, Hand Corps, and Banner Corps raced off the field before half time along with less hardy Monte Vista fans, leaving drones of Sultan fans under the snack bar roof, in bathrooms and even under bleachers. One could be led to believe that the Homecoming festivies would be ruined, but not so. The classes still had their cars packed for the trip around the field, fire works were shot off, and the game still went on. The queen and her court were to be announced at the dance afterwards. Eleven o'clock rolled around with everyone nervously waiting to see if they had won their bets. As Candy Chenowth stood on the stage ready to announce the queen, the girls in the court clutched their bouquets of carnations tighter. Then the big moment, The Homecoming queen of 1974. . . will be announced by Rick Snow. All you could hear in the gymnasium was a big groan. Finally Rick proclaimed Michele Hurst the victor. Cheryl Kolesar, last years queen, then crowned Michele with the traditional crown. Most of the people cheered, but a few still cried. Another homecoming ended for Santana High School, one with a history quite unique from all the others. HTen Years After was the Homecoming theme this year. The theme represents Santana's tenth year anniversary. Top of page are the drenched crowds at the homecoming game. Bottom left- fireworks. Bottom right- rricycle race during homecoming week.
