6 'tiff Hoopsters Make It Two LPL Championships In Row Riding the victory waves, the Pirates coasted to a second straight Los Padres League Championship. The bold buccaneers forced seven straight league opponets to walk the plank before falling victim to a rugged St. Joseph team in a game which had little meaning for the Pirates - they had already clinched the championship. In the CIF playoffs SY convinced Calabassas 76-59, only to get nipped for the second straight year by St. Monica and their superstar, Leon Wood. The 64-63 loss was particularly heartbreaking because SY had dropped a 70-68 quarter-finals game last year. Although they didn't win the CIF championship they were a legitimate contender, and this year's team will be remembered as exciting, flashy, explosive, and crowd-pleasing.
