The 1979 Student Council proved to be a hard working and dedicated group. Because of their fantastic efforts, and in spite of proposition 13, Student Council raised more money this year than any previous years. Throughout the year, Student Council continuously brought about many improvements and activities to the school. They painted the bleachers and the press box: they put up a new glass enclosed bulletin board in the student center: they sponsored the exciting volleyball game played by the Santa Barbara Spikers and the champions of pro-volleyballg because of their efforts, the Los Angeles Rams Football team came to play basketball against the Viking All-Stars: they also revived the election convention for 1979, after a year's disappearance. Other programs Student Council brought to the High School were the movies they showed in the Little' Theatre, which received financial sponsorship from the local Rotary Club, the John Platis Light and Sound Show, the L5 society, and an exciting, inspiring three screen film Fat City . Homecoming this year was a great success, thanks to Student Council. Ingeniously, they developed the Tropical Magic Homecoming Festival to raise money for extra-curricular activities. The lccal businesses co- operated in donating hundreds of dollars of prizes, and the school organizations put together booths of all kinds that added to an entertaining afternoon. To top off the fun- filled Homecoming activities was the dance. Because of the island-like atmosphere, the impressive decorations, and the outstanding music of Omega , the dance proved to be a highlight of the year. The Christmas formal, sponsored by the seniors, with music by Long John Silver , was also outstanding. The Student Council, after the idea of a Homecoming King was voted down, created an April Fool's Day King land thats no jokell. Class competition continued to grow as a student activity. This year the senior class took the lead, as the sophomores and juniors battled for second. And as for the Freshmen, well you know your place. Aided by Student Council, was the raffle of the Chevy Luv truck. A class competition was organized for the sale of tickets. The whole event enabled the classes to donate 5800.00 to the extra curricular activities fund. The success of this year's Student Council rests on the fact that the leaders possessed an ability to relate to the students, listen to their suggestions, and create a successfully active year. iii xNx 2:5 if k . as i l if-.. -Q f .-. .,,.
