Defense Dominates It has been five years since Santa Teresa beat Oak Grove; however, the Saints got revenge this year by defeating the defending league champions 22-11 on our home field. The game was controlled by an awesome Saint defense, which produced eight quarterback sacks and six interceptions, including three by cornerback Pete Escarcega. The “sack pack” composed of Mike Nydam, Gary Turnipseed, and Jeff Reed accounted for all eight of the sacks. Other outstanding performances were turned in by Hayden Knox, Steve Koch, and Mike Burns.

Yearbook Dedication Mr. DeVita Mr. Michael DeVita is the head of the art department at Santa Teresa and was the yearbook advisor for the 1979,1980 and 1981 editions of the Compendium. His devotion to his work has earned him respect and admiration from his colleagues and students; yet this unique man, with all of his responsibilities, still manages to find time for everyone. Mr. DeVita has a wife, Betti, and two children, Michelle and Matthew. Born in San Francisco, he received his AA in art at West Valley College, and then went on to San Jose State where he majored in art and received his teaching credential. Mr. DeVita has been a Deans Scholar and is a member of the California Art Educational Association, as well as the Eastside Art Educational Association. Before coming to Santa Teresa, he taught at Piedmont Hills High School for two years. We on the yearbook staff dedicate the 1982 Compendium to Mike DeVita, because he has dedicated so much of himself to the Compendium in the past. Thanks to his efforts, Santa Teresa has gained a reputation for producing a quality yearbook, and we will always strive to uphold the standards set by Mr. Michael DeVita. Introduction
