Listed in the paint charts as Pineapple, and referred to by some students as Gift of the Gulls, the new color of the gymnasium and other buildings on campus caught a few people off guard, but a larger number of returning students were shocked to observe that the hands of the clocktower actually showed the correct time. Books were issued in several classes on the first day of school, and students were not pleased to discover that the lockers were being repaired and would not be ready for use until December. All in all, however, the Saints showed a remarkable display of spirit and good humor, and it was obvious that 1981-82 would be a year to remember.

Opening Days The first day of school reflected the changing times at Santa Teresa, as the 1981-82 school year got under way. There was a twinge of excitement in the air, as well as a chorus of groans from students not quite ready to shed their tank tops and don shirts with — ugh — buttons. The school day started fifteen minutes earlier this year and ended fifteen minutes later, as each class was lengthened by five minutes. Members of the freshman class, after locating the gym, attended an orientation rally while the rest of the students picked up their schedules, which they had organized during Arena Scheduling in August.
