Edffor IS Q40 ali ox We, of the 1957 PATRIN staff, sincerely hope that you enjoy viewing this year's PATRIN. We know that in years to come you'll find it even more enjoyable, While reminiscing of times past, both pleasant and humor- ous. No yearbook can be published Without some faults, but We have tried to overcome those difficulties, and to accept them along with the pleasant aspects. We Wish, also, to thank those stu- dents Who Worked so hard to help us meet our deadlines. We will be for- ever indebted to Mr. Bushnell and our Photography Department for their fine work, co-operation, and unending patience. Once again, we hope you enjoy this portrayal of contemporary campus life and its various phases- THE 1957 PATRIN. Ted Hawkins Advisor 43? Arlene Cahill jock B,-yon Asst. Ed. 8. Bus. Mgr. Starting off the season on the right foot, the Cubs tangled with San Jose and put the damper on the Jaguars 6-0. The lone score came just before the half when All-North- ern California QB Nat Carasali unleashed a beautiful 28 yd. pass to All-Conference HB Charlie McDonald who reached paydirt untouched. After missing the extra point, San Jose threatened many times but the hustle of the tough Bear Cub defenders was too much for the Jaquars and the San Jose counter-attack failed. J. Smith, B. Get him, Jim Although the season started good, the second game was a complete reverse from the first. Determination Poor play and lack of hustle and spirit brought the Cubs a 27-8 shellacking by the hands of the powerf-ul East Contra Costa Vik- ings.. The Vikings scored four TD's and made three extra points before the Bear Cubs could get on the scoreboard. Trailing 27-0, a Bear Cub dumped a Viking in the end zone for a safety and two points. Soon after, Carasali again threw to McDonald for a 15 yard TD play. The game ended 27-8. L. Gribaldoy T.i Santa Rosa J. C. East Contra Costa J. C. D. Sbragia, FB. P. Awed by the newspaper clippings of San Francisco City College Rams, the Bear Cubs played very much like they did in the East Contra Costa game. TWO long runs and a sustained drive accounted for three TD's for the Rams before Bear Cub Charlie McDonald plunged over for the first Santa Rosa Score late in the third quarter. The invincable combination of Carasali and Mc- Donald scored our last TD, but the Rams F. Esporzo, G. G. Napoleon, FB. had too much for the tired Bear Cubs and had no trouble scoring three more times ending the game with the Cubs trailing 39-13. N. Belli, G. s. Kelly, os. ii Where you going with that? Playing like a seasoned college team the Cubs found themselves and played near flawless ball. After failing to make a first down the Modesto Pirates took over on the Cubs 24 yard line and immediately capi- talized on the break and put over their first and only score of the game. Carasali's upinpointf' passing, good running from the backs, and excellent blocking and tackling of the team proved to be too much for the Pirates. McDonald scored twice with Bryam and Sbragia both scoring once. Final score was Cubs 26, Pirates 7. l J. Fosen, HB. D. Hoemel E' Sontol Rosa J. C. 26 Modesto J. C, 7 Voz, putting on the steam J. This Was by far one of the Cubs best gamCS. A. Dumas, HB. I got a feeling l'm falling In the deciding game of the season the Bear Cubs played a truly Rock 86 Roll type of ball game. Starting off with a rock, the Cubs opened a march down field that Was capped by a five yard touchdown pass from Carasali to Thiederman. Then they began to roll only in the Wrong direc- tion.
