JAMES MURPHY graduated from Pharr San Juan Alamo in 1943. He attended A8:l University and graduated in 1948 with a BS degree in engineering. Later, he went back to college and in 1953, he graduated with a Master's degree in engineering. After he graduated, he and his wife moved to Santa Rosa. Mr. Murphy was our Santa Rosa High School principal for seventeen years. ln 1970, he was elected to be the superintendent of Santa Rosa. MR. LUIS GARZA graduated from Santa Rosa in 1966. He graduated from Pan American Univ. in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. ln 1972 to 1978, he taught in Santa Maria. While he was teaching, he went to San Angelo University to be cer- tified in Distributive Education. He returned back to Pan American University to receive his Master's of Education. Then in 1980, he was elected to be principal of Santa Rosa High School. Mr. Garza says, he enjoys working with the students in Santa Rosa. MRS. ALAFAIR HAMMETT graduated from Axtell High School in Axtell, Texas. She went to college at Baylor University and Pan American University. She graduated there with a Post Graduate. She taught school in Edinburg for one year, Midland for two years, Harlingen for eleven years, La Feria for eleven years and then she came to Santa Rosa and has been teaching here for seven years. For the past two years, Mrs. Hammett has been our High School Counselor. MR. H. N. HEROD graduated from high school in Grapeland, Texas. He received his Master's degree in Music from Stephen F. Austin. Before coming to Santa Rosa, he taught school sixteen years at Austin School in Pharr, Texas. He has served as a Band Direc- tor for eighteen years. Key Club's main objective is to pro- vide the student body with pleasurable activities and engage in community charity fund-raising drives. Sponsor Mr. Ray Hittenmiller. 'H lmsi n 4 Santa Rosa Golden Warrior Band Improving yearly, the Santa Rosa Golden Warrior Band has made tremendous gains this year. The success of the program has added a sense of pride among the members. This year the Band participated in two marching contests, and received excellent ratings. The twirlers also competed in U.l.L. contest, and received a superior rating. The future looks bright with the potential and enthusiasm of the students. Elizondo This year the band was selected by the Mexico-Americano Cultural Club of Brownsville to attend the Carnival de Vera Cruz in Vera Cruz, Mexico. The 1982-83 Drum Major was Susan Madaffari. S.R. Flag Corps The members of Santa Rosa Flag Corps were very successful this year. They placed first in the Weslaco Marching Contest, and per- formed at every football game. The corps also marched in several parades. Future Farmers of America The Future Farmers of America is an organization that helps students achieve and prepare for the future. Here at the Santa Rosa Vocational Agricultural Shop, high school students from grades 9th and up are taught according to how much time and effort they put in. Students can have 4 years of training if they desire. In those 4 years, all the education that was received from FFA, is a great benefit to the students to make them a successful farmer. It is the council's job to maintain school interest, spirit, and loyaltyg also the council tries to bring about a closer cooperation between the students and the faculty. The team finished the first half of the season with a 2-4 record, placing the team third in the dual meets. The new coach, Mr. Folks, helped the Tennis Team improve their skills, and the team consisted of several young Players, all wanting to improve. Returning were Adan Perez, Susan Galloway, and Ann Garza. Several players including Adan Perez, Rene Lopez, Cesar Torres, Susan Galloway, and Sandra Guajardo, all have inside shots at Regionals.
