REID ..,....,.,..,.,.... ., ...,..........,... .iid-:'x.i'11V The purpose of the HiEY Club is to encourage the development ot latent talents of leadership through co-operation with others, in a pro- gram in keeping with the Christian Principles of Service and Citizenship upon which this organization is founded. The Santa Paula Hi-Y Club was very active during the school year of I937-38. This club put on the first all-county Hi--Y and Tri-Y potluclc in October. In November, many members attended the annual Holly- wood Y Day in Hollywood. The highlight of the day was the attend- ing the S. M. U.-U. C. L. A. football game in the Coliseum. Later, the club attended Grauman's Chinese Theatre. ln December, some ot the group went on a weelc's snow trip to Big Bear. In March, several members attended the Tri-County Older Boys' Conference held in Paso Robles, and it'was decided to hold the l939 Conference in Santa Paula. In April, the Hi-Y gave a potluclc in honor of the parents, at which the Rev. J. Whitcomb Brougher was the principal speaker. In addition to this, the club organized a Junior Hi-Y and a Girls' Tri-Y. One Sunday of every month the club, as a whole, attend some church. Under the enthusiastic leadership of the President, Charles lno, and Advisor Mr. Clyde Ried, the Hi-Y enjoyed its most successful year. GEORGE 'P RoaERT SPAIN . . - ' Row: e er . Formally inducted by the Ventura Junior College Tri-Y on November 9, l937. On November I4 the Hi-Y and the Tri-Y were hosts and hostesses to a county meet ot Hi-Y and Tri-Y clubs. At Thanksgiving and Christmas time, assisted in the welfare work by giving food and clothing to the needy, and distributing toys to the children. ln December the girls enjoyed tour days in the snow at the Y. M. C. A. Winter Camp at Big Bear. Those who attended were: Miss Amy Chapman, advisor: Helen Marie Shroclc, Barbara Harrison, and Mildred Harrington. The Hi-Y were guests at a Christmas party given by the Tri-Y. ln February the Santa Paula Tri-Y won the county award tor out- standing organization. On March I4, the Tri-Y girls inducted the Carpinteria Tri-Y at Car- pinteria. On March 26 and 27 a Southern California Convention was held at Alhambra at which meet Miss Barbara Harrison was elected Vice-Presi- dent for this organization tor the following year. Among the activities tor the year were: a Hallowe'en party, Japanese dinner party, helping needy families at Christmas, serving and preparing the food for a Hi4Y breakfast, a bicyle ride to the Billiwalcaclc Dairy, a tea tor mothers, a hilre, a tield trip, a trip to the annual Homemalcing Club Conference in Los Angeles, and the installation of next year's otticers, held in June, n the form of a brealclast. Sweaters for all Pi Omega members in the club colors of purple and gold were some- thing new.
