Gonzales, and Vliilson ltsttn in on i lust discussion: Auggie gets set to polt ont out BASEBALL Because all other high schools in the county have decided to discontinue baseball as a major sport, there seems to be little prospect for the continuance of the game at Santa Paula after this year. As a substitute, indoor or soft ball may be introduced as a league sport. At the close of the regular hard ball season this spring, a group of boys interested in soft ball organized a team which played an informal schedule of games. Fillmore and Oxnard high schools sent squads to play the Cards on their home diamond. No championship was awarded for the indoor hall season, but plans for a county tournament were formulated. iliembers of the A squad and their respective positions were: George lno, catcherg Kenneth l'Varren, pitcher, Hap Edde, first base, Victor Anderson, second base, Carl Hackworth, third baseg John Inglis, short stop, jack Lercari, left fieldg Ifrnest Messer, center field: Bert Hopkins, right field, Joe Bravo, left field, Darrell Stewart, catcher: and lid Yarbrough, catcher. Boys from the freshman class organized a first-year squad which played a free-lance schedule, meeting, among others, Olivelands school. Freshmen hall players included: Charlie lno, catcher: Jim I arquhar, pitcher: Jack Lercari, first base, Neil Clark, second baseg lVarren Klcljherson, third baseg Joe Rafferty, short stopg Joe Provo, right field: Frank Reed, center fieldg Harold Bright, left field. Reserves were Laurence Guiterrez, Vindle Hayes, Harold Klay, lid Yarbrough, Frank lVyand, and Norman VVyand. fllr. Hunsalter coached the soft ball squads, as well as the hard ball team. From the A squad and the freshman group can be drawn enough players to form a fairly strong team next spring in the event the indoor ball is made a regular league sport.
