FRENCH CLUB The French Club was organized during the second semester. Due to this fact, its activities were limited. However, the members of the club presented a fine display of puppets in lllay. First-year students made their puppets to represent some of the characters in fairy tales. Second-year students used the characters from the French story, Sans Familie . Each student was supposed to have a correspondent in France. A beach party finished the year of activities. Those acting as officers were: president, Delphine hloyg vice- president, Helen Sharpg secretary Vit Yinia Alleng faculty adviser, ' Q h ,, 1. . Miss Itllen Bailard. STAC-E CREW Illembers of the stage crew get lots of hard knocks and receive no thanks for their eitorts. The stage crew may be called the con- necting link between the actors and the audience. lt is the duty of those taking stage-craft to arrange all stage settings, produce sound effects, get properties, arrange lighting effects, and prepare all cos- tumes. Under the supervision of lXIr. Arthur C. Brady, the stage crew workers made all the scenery for the senior play, assemblies, Festival of Arts, and the one-act play, Neighbors . l 'l'11 OZIPl Dm CP-5 3 5 CALENDAR rosa-1935 AUGUST 27-School opened. 30-An assembly honoring the freshmen was held. Judge Robinson sen- tenced guilty members of the class with appropriate measures for reform. 31-The sophomores triumphed over the freshmen in befitting style at the annual tie-up. SICPTEMBER 6-Miss Edna Gearhart spoke before the Girls' League at the first tea of the year. 7-Gaiety prevailed at a student body party in the gym. Ping-pong rivaled dancing. 14-A big pow-wow was held in the auditorium in preparation for the first game of the season. 15-The Cards put up a good Hght against the Santa Barbara Dons, losing the game by one small point. 19-Dodge's gen-u-wine Indians presented a program of song and dance in an assembly. 21-The bus transported a group of students on an excursion to see the striking performance of A lllidsummer Night's Dream at the Holly- wood Bowl. 27-An exclusive assembly for juniors and seniors was held. A representative of VVoodbury's College spoke on commercial possibilities for students. 28-The girls frolicked and capered at their annual Hi-Jinx in the gym. OCTOBER 5-Rafters in the auditorium shook during a football rally. 6-The Occidental frosh team was conquered by the Cards in home terri- tory. 11-llembers of the Girls' League sipped tea and nibbled sandwiches in the cafeteria hall at another Hawftuhnoon tea . Deah, deahl 12-Pep and school spirit overflowed from the auditorium during a rally. 13-The Cards were victorious in the Land of the Flashes, giving a push-off to a successful season in the League. 16-Geoffrey lXIorgan addressed the student body on the topic, The Man Ahead , in a special assembly. 19-A special program, designed to inspire and uphold school spirit, was presented in a rally. 20-The Oxnard Yellow Jackets lost their sting in a battle against our flaming Cardinals. 25-A demonstration of boy scout activities was presented by officials for the student body. 26-Senor lllaldo brought his bag of tricks over from Santa Barbara and manufactured rabbits at a senior benefit program. 27-Ventura was sadly disappointed in an attempt to subdue the Cardinals. NOVEMBER 2-The first quarter came to a close, and students flocked to a party in the gym for a bit of relaxation after a strenuous week of exams. 3-illembers of the G. A. A. entertained the girls from all county schools at a Dude Ranch festival, with competitive games. Our girls won the big award. 9-Mr. Brady and lllr. Johnson joined forces in the presentation of a unique Armistice program. 12-The whole town turned out for a big Armistice celebration, and backed the Cards in their second victory over Fillmore. l-lilhe Girls, League convened in the cafeteria for a forum. 16-A rally composed of yells and songs and pep talks roused our fighting spirit. 17-Ventura went home defeated by the valiant Cardinals.
