. X' V, :H -w.:f,.,,,,,,-1 , The year, as well as the decade, quickly drew to a close, but within the final days of 1979, Samohi celebrated one of its most awaited annual traditions, Homecoming. The Associated Student Body planned the week's events, but the involvement of students and faculty carried those plans out, making the last Homecoming celebration of the seventies a memorable one. The theme Odin Goes Disney reigned supreme during the week of October 22, beginning Monday, Tomorrowland Day, with a lunch time disco dance in the Humanities Cen- ter. Tuesday recreated Adventureland with an obstacle course at lunch, following the election earlier that day that would choose the Homecoming Queen from among the sev- en previously elected princesses. The Fantasyland celebra- tion on Wednesday offered a dress-up day, overflowing with the many strange costumes it had to offer. Club and class sponsored booths in the quad displayed a flourish of tempting delicacy items as well as gifts to make a Frontier- land Thursday a tasty day. Campus on Thursday showed the aftermath of tissue-mania from the night before, with the evidence streaming from every convenient tree. Excitement increased as Homecoming Eve approached, leaving Homecoming Day just beneath the tissue. - 'rw' A Url X .

Kirsten Holst Amanda Thompson .7 Thursday evening, all club and class floats were either being started or completed in various locations on campus, in an attempt to preserve the sanity and property of Santa Monica residents from Homecoming madness. The city survived, but campus rowdiness caused an early closing of the school gates. Few people on campus were awake to notice the transition from Thursday evening to Homecoming morning, but once the day's excitement was common knowledge, nothing stopped the roll. Starving float builders regained their strength at the traditional Waffle Breakfast. While the floats were being judged by several faculty members, preparations for the afternoon's Homecoming pep rally had begun, and tension was climbing. Samohi's Sergeanettes, Marching Band, and a Disney-clad Pep Squad entertained the packed mob at the Greek Theater while everyone waited for the Queen to be crowned. Queen Isabelle Li gleamed proudly with her court of princesses, Kim Corliss, Elizabeth Eckert, Kirsten Holst, Shannon 0'Brien, Donna Sanders, and Amanda Thompson. The varsity football team offered us a gratefully accepted 17-0 shutout victory over West Tor- rance, and for some, the evening drew to a close at the Homecoming dance in the Girls' Gym. The year and decade ended with old familiar faces, and the hope for the same in the upcoming phases of life.
