The Viking mascot filled the gap left by Victor and ' Vicky Viking. While he for shej roamed the track, Samo Hpeppersf' yelled from the stands. The Pep Club was very active, as always. Samohi's Marching Band Ends on a High ote Samohfs 1978-79 Viking Marching Band is a major source of musical enter- tainment for the school. The band provides exhilarating music at football and basketball games, pep rallies, music festivals, stairway to the stars, the spring concert and many parades. The band also competed in a total of five tournaments where they placed exceptionally well. In the Antelope Valley Halftime and the Los Altos Half- time Tournaments, the band won fourth place. In the West Covina Halftime Tournament they improved their performance to win second place. The band continued to excell 1 and won the highly acclaimed sweepstakes award for both the Chafey Halftime and the Westminis- ter Halftime Tournaments. To top it all off, the 7 Viking Band was awarded the 1978-79 Mayor's Trophy for the best music.
