Before the start of the 1977 football sea- son, people thought the gridders lost a lot when their two All-CIF players graduated the year before. New Head Coach Mike Gris- wold thought this year's team might be even better than the 10-2 team of last year. So starting off the season, Samo played perennial powerhouse Loyola High School and promptly took the game to them with a 22-19 victory. Samo promptly reeled off eight more victories in a row including a 22-14 victory over arch rival West Torrance. Three year starting quarterback Kevin Rey- nolds passed for 200 yards and sophomore tailback senation Derrick Singelton gain 149 yards on the ground. Samo placed seven players on the All- Bay League first team and six on the All- West-Side first team Kevin Reynolds was picked as the Bay League Offensive Player of the Year, and was joined on the Bay League Team- with Rob Rowbotham, Hugo Barjollo, Namon Thompson, Mike Hewitt, Scott Carni and Chris Kolojieski. The All-West-Side Team selections were the same with Kolojieski making the second team instead of the first. Also making All- West-Side second team were Ricky Williams, Jeff Gage, and Ed Bell. On the All-Bay- League second team were Ricky Williams, Derrick Singelton, Ed Bell and Tony Wal- czuk.
