Although Samohi's population did spend an average seven and a half hours on campus every day, there was still plenty of time left over for other activities. A large number of students went to work after school, and no matter what the job was, it meant money, and money meant everything. Being outside, in the fresh air, was an obsession for some students. At the beach, time was divided between the sand and sea. The snow Cwhen there was snowy attracted students to the slopes. Bicycling, skateboarding, and roller skating were other ways to get where you were going and have fun on the way. Music and movies appealed to the student body especially. For concerts, an overnight wait in line at the Forum was considered time well spent. With Westwood just a bus ride away, first run films received a good portion of student interest. Eating was a specialty of Samohites and no S.lVl. or West L.A. eaterie was the same after a group of students ate out the kitchen. School, being the social generator that it is, was the root of the activities that happened around it.
