They let students in on Cabinet's activities, brought students' suggestions to Cabinet meetings, and took special polls in an attempt to please more students. Thanks to these individuals, pancake breakfast tickets were sold la blessing?l, this book was publicized, and music groups were plugged. The Reps attended weekly Cabinet meetings at which they each had one-half vote. At their own House gatherings. each was entitled to one full vote. Every student was invited to these meetings and had full voting privileges. The Reps were successful in increasing student awareness, even though at times the communication was sometimes onesided, and a little discouraging. All in all, the Rep-at-Large system was a step forward in the communication between Vikes and their student government.

Sharyl Gabriel, as Commissioner of Campus Welfare, was in charge of school- wide charity drives and sponsored the Trash King!Queen contest. N03 0 Q J 0 H 5560 I VOL. LXI. NO. IO SANTA MONICA, CALIFORlNllA 90405 FRI.. NOV. 22, i974 Against enormous odds, the intrepid staff somehow managed to grind out the weekly edition of the SAMOHI. The dedicated editors, photographers, and reporters, with ior despite?l the help of long-suffering adviser Larry Knuth, fought, struggled, and faked their way through countless deadlines in an effort to keep Vikings informed. Looking back over the year, it is impossible to forget Iris, who tried to maintain her humor and her dignity while locking her keys in her car, arguing with the cub editors, and betting against the SAMOHI in journalism competition. Then there's Adam, our staff celebrity - he was the 200,000th person to walk into the library. Adam was always good for a fight, carrying on printed debates. when he wasn't getting his picture in the paper. Mark, the staff's token jock, kept his motorcycle tucked away in the journalism room and spent the year in a desperate quest for just one worthwhile news story. Dennis never failed to keep everyone laughing and never stopped smiling, even when deadlines came and went. Julie searched throughout the year for a cause, any cause - her fondest hope was to be controversial. Pringle and his appetite were legendary, and in between trips to Jack-in-the-Box, he composed epic 18-inch news stories that always got edited to 5M Glenn was famous for his inimitable political essays, while Marc , .7l,1.11'.f'f. mv:-f lfifil 'T W Alumni subscription: S1 per year Published by the Associated Student Body f 'i'- l of Santa Monica. PHOTO STAFF -' Kirk Bachman, lVllke Barto was known for his tributes to Elton John and Judaism. Jenny, Eve, and Carol quietly chatted all week, miraculously coming up with columns in the nick of time. Ramsey and Allan were all but invisible, turning in 3 sports stories and quickly disappearing again. Eddie, Kirk, Kris, and Mike - four of the craziest people you'll ever meet - were so busy decorating the walls they had a tendency to forget deadlines. Kris had the best attendance on the staff, too bad he was scheduled for P.E. that period! Kirk Bachman, the curly- haired boy wonder, worshipped Roger Fiamjet and Super Chicken, and got his kicks by walking in trash'cans. Mike quietly changed to his tennis shorts and practiced his backhand, while Eddie somehow kept his patience. Then there were the good l?l times - like slurping spaghetti at the Noodle Co., tying Kirk to Knuth's chair, those endless journalism seminars, and those exciting evenings with the gang at print shop. Julie, Mark, and Kirk will always treasure the lessons they learned about finance and football from an eccentric alumni . .Q The spring semester brought some new inductees to the madhouse, who joined right in. All in all, its been a year the mild- mannered reporters on the SAMOHI won't ior can'tl soon forget.
