Coptoins The Captains overcame a little turbulence while piloting the Drill Team this year. Due to the change in sponsors, the Captains found themselves organi- zing drill without adult assistance. They got it together in time to take the First Sergeants to camp - some- thing that's never been done before. F The Captains saw other innovations: tighter discipline and greater cooperation helped make the routines smoother and more imaginative. The dedicated girls devoted 9996 of their time whipping the drill team into superior shape. They didn't consider it a sacrifice. Coming in contact with such diversified personalities makes you aware of others' feelings. J

Miss Brenda Stratton took a firm hand with the Sergeanettes and helped them achieve their objectives of self-esteem and stricter discipline. This background was responsible for their excellence at performances, and their success at raising school spirit. The girls practiced harder and longer this year. They also worked in cooperation with the Fronts to achieve more professional routines. The Sophomores proved to be an enthusiastic, capable group and an asset to the team. Their hard work and determination paid off with a third place award at the Rosemead parade. The girls also participated in the Santa Monica El Primero parade, and marched at Magic Mountain. The girls in Sergeanettes got more out of the experience than dance routines. According to many of the girls, the most important lesson they learned was understanding. You learn to get along with all kinds of people: you make friends with people you'd never meet otherwise. Being a Sergeanette meant giving up a lot of their time to rehearse, and re- rehearse, until the routines were up to the drill team's standard of excellence. But the girls didn't mind at all. lt's worth it all when you're out there perform- ing, and you know you're doing your very best. Congratulations to the Sergeanettes for a superior season! Flogs The Flags dazzled Vikings once again with their fancy flagwork. The girls were featured performers at football and basket- ball games. pep rallies. and parades. Four of the five Flags went to camp in Santa Barbara this summer. Following the pre- cedent set by the entire spirit squad, the Flags received high honors in competition, and placed third with a routine they choreo- graphed. The Flags worked to finance their projects by holding a car wash and bake sale. raising S90.00. After football season, the girls passed their flags on to new Flags-to-be. They spent the spring sharing the secrets of their skills with their successors. ,,,,. ,... Ju-.- J.V. Yell Leaders-clockwise: Evelyn Clark, Suzy Bergere, Monica McCaIlister, Colleen Broslow. The nine dedicated girls worked hard to inspire our foot- ball team to victory, and they had fun doing it! The girls overcame the limits of a too-small budget by fore- going a new banner and improv- ing their footwork and form. A mix-up in dates resulted in our girls ending up at the wrong summer camp! Undaunted, they had a great time. The Banners contributed im- measurably to the success of Samo's spirit squad.
