Coach Dick Turner Yn- O Coach Irv Kasten Coach Don Steere In the next game against Rolling Hills, the Norsemen dumped the Titans, 45-l3. Once again Martin rushed for over lOO yards, this time going for T60 and scoring twice. Dan Saenz, who replaced Larry Thorne in the back spot, played an outstanding game, scoring three touch- downs, including a 45-yard sprint. Viking hopes for a Bay League championship were severely damp- ened when they lost their next game to Redondo in a fluke, 19-18, game. The game started on a bright note as the Vike eleven rolled to an easy touchdown early in the first quarter. Dan Saenz then made a 49-yard romp, which increased the lead to T2-O in the first half. During the sec- ond half, the Seahawks cashed in on two mistakes which proved ex- tremely important in the outcome of the game. Larez, the third man in the powerful Viking backfield came through with a 40-yard touchdown run but even this proved ineffectual as the Vikes missed their third con- version and the Seahawks maneuvered another touchdown to squelch the Vikes' final attempt. The Vikings proved their worth in the next game by rolling to a 21-19 victory over the Inglewood Sentinels. Dan Saenz once again proved his worth by getting two touchdowns and two conversions to lead the Viking offensive attack. Gene Martin, the leading Vike scrambler, scored one touchdown in the second quarter to keep his rushing records intact. Samo blanked the North Torrance footballers in the fifth game of the season by an easy score of 27-O to remain tied for first in the Bay League. Jack O'Brien scooped up a blocked kick in the first quarter and lumbered to the one-yard line before being brought down from behind. Gene Martin put one yard and six points to his name by dancing across the goal line to score the first Vike touchdown, Then the Saxons gave up the ball on their five-yard line to set up another touchdown by the fast- moving Martin. Dan Morrison threw a touchdown pass to end Tony McNeal in the corner of the end zone for the third touchdown of the one-sided game. Dan Saenz plunged across the goal line from the one-yard line to score the final Vi ke touchdown in the second period. In the last game of the season the Vikes poured over a helpless Hawthorne team to finish off the season with a 51-T3 smear of the Cougars and a Bay League crown. Vike hopes for more than one game in CIF were squelched when the powerful Centennial Apaches downed them in a 60-38 seesaw game of offensive play. l-lalfback Gene Martin broke a school rushing record by ll5 yards, by compiling ll4l total yards gained for the year. Dan Saenz led the attack against the Apaches with four touchdowns.
