Vice-Principal Beverlg Waters l ...,,,,, To the Class of 19671 Past is Prologue. You, the Class of 1967, are being graduated from a high school steeped in tradition, com- mitted to academic excellence, distinguished by its in- structional staff, and recognized for its high standard of education. Most of you are a part of this school, which is positive in its faith in young people, supportive of the aspirations and ideals of its students, and certain of its responsibility to foster true inquiry and intellectual curi- osity. Some of you are apart from this school, and your very differences and dissensions have enabled it to avoid complacency and to question the retention of the status quo. Samohi's greatness can be attributed to its ability to accommodate each of you-the builders, the dreamers, the dissenters. As you graduate, you are being asked to contribute to that greatness. Lead-but make it a worthy endeavor. Support-but make certain you understand the cause. Criticize-but offer a constructive suggestion to ameliorate the cause. Criticize-but offer a construc- tive suggestion to ameliorate the situation. Dissent-but offer a practical alternative. The instructional staff has dedicated itself to fostering the emergence of the individual. Perpetuate that commit- ment, but let it be influenced by what you have learned here-the meaning of sincerity, the price of manliness, the satisfaction of honor, and the value of service.
