Vice-Principal Beverlg Waters l ...,,,,, To the Class of 19671 Past is Prologue. You, the Class of 1967, are being graduated from a high school steeped in tradition, com- mitted to academic excellence, distinguished by its in- structional staff, and recognized for its high standard of education. Most of you are a part of this school, which is positive in its faith in young people, supportive of the aspirations and ideals of its students, and certain of its responsibility to foster true inquiry and intellectual curi- osity. Some of you are apart from this school, and your very differences and dissensions have enabled it to avoid complacency and to question the retention of the status quo. Samohi's greatness can be attributed to its ability to accommodate each of you-the builders, the dreamers, the dissenters. As you graduate, you are being asked to contribute to that greatness. Lead-but make it a worthy endeavor. Support-but make certain you understand the cause. Criticize-but offer a constructive suggestion to ameliorate the cause. Criticize-but offer a construc- tive suggestion to ameliorate the situation. Dissent-but offer a practical alternative. The instructional staff has dedicated itself to fostering the emergence of the individual. Perpetuate that commit- ment, but let it be influenced by what you have learned here-the meaning of sincerity, the price of manliness, the satisfaction of honor, and the value of service. Vice-Principal Porter I. Leach Mn. .. Mr. Porter Leach cmd his secretory, Mrs. Betty Gruber ln this year of celebration of our diamond anniversary, we look back on our first 75 years and recall many of the fine traditions that have grown with the passing generations of students who have walked Indian Hill. It was a small group of worried student leaders who printed our first Nautilus yearbook in 1907 and our Samohi newspaper in 1913. These were followed later by the Boys' League of 1927 who furthered the tradition of our school. Our athletes have been noted throughout Southern California for their outstanding teams and the type of sportsmanship that is the outgrowth of a loyal student body and a dedicated coaching staff. ln recent years, our sports program has been expanded to include many new sports and divisions within these sports. The physical plant has grown from a small single building with a few students to our present multi-building campus that houses our present student body. Even as we look to the past for our heritage, we must also look to the future for growth. No one can predict what the next 75 years will bring, but it is indeed the hope of the present that Samohi will continue to be the Ubest and most outstanding to the thousands of students who will travel the halls, who will be in the stands for our games, and who will march across our Greek Theater in graduation. To Samohi we say All Hail. Porter l. Leach Vice-Principal
