AUSTRIA Santa Monica High School April 5, 1960 Hello, Everyone: Thinking back over the most wonderful time of my life, it is hard to believe I have spent only one year with you. The days flew past me much too fast. From the very beginning I loved this school, because I was accepted as part of it and I felt the affection and interest I was given. When I came here, I did not know what a motion was, or a football game, or a student body presi- dent. I do now! There are so many little adven- tures, experiences, and impressions that will make my time here unforgetable. Though I cannot take you and Samohi home with me, I shall cherish the memories and remember you always. All my thanks go to the American Field Service and you who Hadoptedl' me. I truly believe that this program contributes immensely to friendship and understanding in the world we live in. For now I know that I have not only two families I love and respect equally, but also two homes- Austria and my beloved United States. I would like to express my gratefulness and lovecto everyone I know-to my 2800 friends, my wonderful teachers, and especially to Dr. Drake. Goodbye! Auf Wiedersehen! Helen Schebesta tra. FRANCE Santa Monica High School April 5, 1960 Dear Student Body: It took me seven years to like my French high school . . . it took me a few weeks to love Samohi! Why? Sunny weather, happy faces, pep rallies, creamy milk sold for a nickel tl hate milkl, maybe a combination of all these. I don't neally know. My first day in this high school, however, was a tragic one. First I found the wrong registration room. Then came the registration itself: It seemed to be really easy. At least that's what I thought: by fourth period I was sitting on a step, warm, exhausted, and confused. l still did not know where to go in the next few days and l was sent from one end of the campus to thc other, muttering. Sacrehleu to myself. But what counts is that I came to understand your school, your habits, your everyday life, and incidentally, your language. I became accustomed to coming to school in the morning smiling and happy tcxcept when l was latell u l wish all of you could some day have the same interesting cxpcricnccg this has been my most precious year and l will remember it as lohng as I have a memory or rather-a heart. A Parisian, Pierre Poliansky

Senior B President, Tom Elking Mona Golden, Vice-President, Sandy Howe, Secretary, and Jane Hillyer, Treasurer, were leading the class when the selection of senior sweaters was made. The color chosen was blue with white trim and the class became oflicial seniors on Senior Sweater Day. XS Leading the class in its last semester at Samohi was Kent Colberg, President. He was assisted by Helen Schebesta, Vice-President, Barbara Webb, Se- cretary, and Rachele Blakely, Treasurer. This past semester was an important one as the class sponsored the senior play, Katie . Everyone participated in the senior traditions of grad-nite at the Moulin Rouge, a banquet at the Deauville Club, and the prom Beyond the Sea at the Riviera Country Club. The three-year-old-stay has proved successful for the Spring '60 Class and all its officers. When they leave Samohi, they will take with them the best wishes of the classes they have left behind.
