Principal To The Graduating Classes Of 1960: George Bernard Shaw once said, Ah, youth, what a pity to waste it on the young. As I think of what the new decade will bring and the oppor- tunities facing you, I lsnow the precious qualities of youth-enthusiasm, strength, vitality, and hope- will not be wasted on you. It is my wish that as you leave Sarnohi and your Nautilus goes with you, the theme, The Voice that Sings , which is the essence of Samohi, will ring in your hearts for years to come. 4246-47A'i!

5 Vice Principal fStuclent Activitiesl With graduation of the Summer Class of 1960 we will see the termination of another very successful year. The winning of the Sports- manship Trophy demonstrates the individual student's outstanding attitude. In Athletics, Forensics, Drama, Music, Journalism and Scholarship, we have won many awards and are recognized as a superior high school in California. We are seeing many changes take place on campus but one thing which remains 1 constant is the loyalty and cooperation of stu- dents and faculty in maintaining the many fine traditions of Samohi. Vice Principal flnstructionl Build thee more stately mansions, O my soul. This quotation from the Nautilus theme sets a goal that defies a beatnik attitude and over-emphasis on financial success, pleasure, conformity, and security. We must not be afraid of life, and must believe that it is worth living if we are to build constructively. More- over we must ever strive to extend our under- standings, our service to our fellow men. As Lincoln advised during the stormy events of the Civil War, We must think anew, and act anewf, Only by positive, vigorous, altruistic thinking and acting can we meet the chal- lenges of our time and thus, build more stately mansions.
