Upiile, 1 ili Training Aids in Job Placement Our business department offers us suitable training so that we can find and hold down jobs in the busi- ness field. There are three types of majors offered for those preparing for business employment. These are accounting. stenography and retailing, There rs ere no retailing courses open this year as we lacked facilities for them. For our accounting major. we were trained in the procedure of recording business transactions. and learned how to construct and analyze financial statements. A working knowledge of pay roll and Social Security accounting was empha- sized. Learning to operate modern bookkeeping :nachines was an important part of this course. With basic' requirements ol' business lowered during the war. our business department set up a curricula to give stenography majors a thorough course in typing and shorthand. Basic instruction in background suba :refs such as business training. business English, law. arithmetic and filing were given. We fed n mode n lleloxx. The Trade and lndustrial Arts Division pro' gram has taught us skills so we may he-come sell'-supporting. The whole division is planned for successful growth in the trades. In our freshman year we took general shop. which gave us 21 foundation for the advanced shop work. In this course we learned the use of various tools and the simple rudiments of me- chanical drawing. The next years course in- cluded the use of machine tools in machine shop. ln our junior year, we rebuilt cars and repaired engines in auto mechanics. For those of us who desired to go right on to a job from our shop courses, we enrolled in carpentry, millworlc, and welding.
