CLASS HISTORY September of 1938 marked the beginning of a school exper- ience for the following pupils: Ronald Lohec, Sally Remmers, Allene Konzack, Fran ces Mabel Gresham, Erma Locke, Fred Moore, Mary Luna, and Wanda Beaver. In the third grade we felt priviledged to receive Tom Brown into our class. Upon reaching the fifth grade I. E. Franks was added to our class role. The highlight of the sixth grade was the combining of Alta Loma and' Arcadia's classes. Also, Robert Marx and William Dyda joined our happy number at that time. The three fair maidens added to our number in the seventh grade were Peggy Tacquard, Rosie Moore, and Connie Dodds. At last we achieved the goal of eighth grade at Santa Fel Ruperto Mendoza was awaiting us. The freshman class welcomed Patsy Ortego with open arms. The sophomore year was enriched by class parties, beach par- ties, and slumber parties. Wanda Beaver was elected queen. Our junior year was especially interesting because we sponsor- ed the annual carnival and succeeded in electing Allene Konzack queen. The junior-Senior banquet was given in the Galvez Hotel, sponsored by Mrs. Weed and Mr. Whitaker. James Wilson was the only new class member that year. Ray Reifel's untimely death was a sad experience for all of us. The senior year arrived at last! The class greeted Jo Marie Freeman at mid-term. Mrs. Weed and Mr. Whitaker are our sponsors. Again our candidate, Patsy Ortego, was elected queen. Words are inadequate to express the joy and satisfaction that is going with the activities - - the rings, the Alumni Reception, the Annual, the class play, the pictures, the trips, and the parties. The Commencement, the Cgnsummating goal of the year, looms before us. CLASS WILL We, the Senior Class of 1949, of Santa Fe High School, each of us being of fairly sound mind, and of better health, but thinking of the day when we shall be leaving this beloved school, do, with tears in our eyes, word this, our last will and testament bequeathing to our successors, the treasures we have acquired: Fred Moore's cows to Arthur Autry and Joyce Eernisse. Tom Brown's pin-up collection to Jene Dyess and Gerrell Beh- ringer. J. E.'s left half in football to H. M. Bodine. Rona1d's nick-name of Deacon to Willie Paul Bush. He also wills his beloved center position to A. J. Davidson. Ruperto's Atlas muscles to Mike Callanang with great reluc- tance, Donnie Harvey is to receive his two front teeth. James' calm serenity to Francis Chiles and Walter Ferguson. William's athletic powers to Stanley Ethridge and Alvy Lee Filer and also his basketball technique to Raymond Hechler. Robert's friendly smile to Kermit Harris. He also wishes to give Teddy Sayko his wasp waist. Connie's collection of love notes to Velma Sue Brundrett and Farrer Fillioz. Tom's oratorial ability to Nyles Locke and Martin Morgan. Rosie's volleyball ability to Melba Howry. Sally's blonde tresses to Ruby Bethune and june Harrin. Wanda's diplomatic smile to Mandy Milligan and Bobby McCarty. Allene's volleyball dexterity to Neva Nell Davenport and Nina Rae Godwin. Frances' height to Anna Mae Hechler and Charlotte Schulze. Patsy's dual ability to be catty and friendly to Jo Ann Gillioz. Erma's enthusiastic ejaculations about Junior boys to Nelda Bran- don and Carol Behringer. ' jo Marie's ability to write poetry to Lois Westmoreland. Mary's sparkling eyes to Vonciel Bailey. Peggy's pleasing disposition to Doris Sturm and Eva Trippel. PROPHESY Looking into the crystal ball I see the Senior Class of 1949. The year is now 1969. Ronald Lohec is an international adventurer, traveling around the world, madly spending his first fortune. Connie Dobbs is in a Broadway chorus. Her next show is Joe Boy. Robert Marx is a second Tommy Manville. Ruperto Mendoza is a great Matador. The mentioning of his name causes the most fearless Brahma to tremble! Fred Moore has a dairy of his own. Moore Cows is his slogan. Allene Konzack is a Powers Model. She advertizes nail polish-- the Zackie Charm! Peggy Tacquard is a great Nurse, known as the lady of the electric light. james Wilson is a famous movie star, still acting under the direction of O. M. Saunders. Sally Remmers is the proprietor of a kennel for wayfaring poo- ches. . jo Marie Freeman is the wife of a well-known basketball star. His face appears blurred--perhaps you can guess who he is! Erma Locke is a great singer, the Kate Smith of the day. J. E. Franks recently won the Kentucky Derby with his noted horse Beetleboom. William Dyda is evenning the score with the law--he is now game warden. Frances Mabel Gresham is head librarian at Santa Fe High. Patsy Ortego is still winning beauty contests. She is now Mniss America. Wanda Beaver is the first woman chief executive. Half of her classmates are wanting Civil service appointments. Tom Brown is a professor at Podunk-University. He has ad- vanced a new theory of relativity. Rosie Moore is a renowned dress designer. Her abode is in Paris. Mary Luna has succeeded in catching a sailor. Her lullaby is, Anchors aweigh my boy. They were in full strength about half of the season, being plagued with injuries all the way through. Eight games were lost, one won and one tied. The Kirwin game was won 12- 0 and the Needville game was tied 6 - 6. The only other times the lndians were in full strength were against La Marque and Pearland, which were close, hard fought games. The team next year will lose the service of six of the starting line-up. These players are: Robert Marx, an end, Ronald Lohec, a center, Ruperto Men- doza, a tackle, Fred Moore, a halfbackg William Dyda, a quarterback, and, I. E. Franks, a halfback. Although the win column was not very large, the team improved greatly and is looking forward to a successful season next fall. BASKETBALL The Indian cagers have had a fairly successful season. They took a consolation trophy at the Spring tournament and when this annual goes to press, will be in third place in district competition, losing five and winning six of the eleven games and having three more games to play. The team con- sists of two hustling guards in Willie Paul Bush and William Dyda, a cen- ter, Farrer Gillioz, who is hard to beat under the basket, a sharp shooting forward in Robert Marx, and, another accurate shooting forward, J. E. Franks. Boys basketball is a favorite sport with the students of Santa Fe High. BASKETBALL BOYS Robert Marx-Captain, Willie Paul Bush, William Dyda Steve Mattes, E. The girls are resolved to accom- plish their mission. The team of girls that Mrs. Franks has chosen to bring home the trophies this year are: A STRING B STRING Rosie Moore--Captain Doris Sturm--Captain Allene Konzack--Co-Captain Anna Mae Hechler Lois Westmoreland Wanda Beaver Connie Dodds Sally Remmers Jo Ann Gillioz Peggy Tacquard Erma Locke Carol Behringer Dorothy Brown The first conference game of the season was held in our gymnasium with the Friendswood Mustangs and they were easily defeated. Losing the Webster game caused the girls to resolve to win District Championship. They won the La Marque and Deer Park games. Because of having won two practice games with Pearland the team felt sure that victory was tied up with a gay ribbon, only to meet bitter defeat! Friendswood, Webster, and La Marque have been defeated in the second Round Robin. The practice game with Dickinson was won for the first time in five years. The girls are hoping to come out victorious, yet are guarding against overconfidence. , The Senior players hope that in the years to come their good wishes will inspire the team to keep up the good work for Santa Fe. P. S. February 19, 1949, the volleyball girls defeated Missouri City, winning second place trophy at the Dickinson Volleyball Tournament! SNUW on the CAMPUS wballm Z 5 4.440 Let me 'see .
