Among this jealous throng were Robert Jacob, Gene Weigel , Alber- tine Morgan, Allena Still, and Betty Hite. The pupils who joined our class between 1937 and 1942 were Adrian La Deau, Edward Lauzon, Josephine Anselmo, Armegine Carter Thelma Reeves, Lottie Marie Ross, and Mary 'Cathrinee Sckittone. Three new pupils joined our group in 1942, when the Alta. Loma and the Arcadia seventh grades were combined. They were Lucy Luna., Iris Powers, and Wanda Chesshir. ' In the eighth grade we were glad to have Kenneth Harris, Billy Davenport, and Joe Jack Tombrella added to our class roll. The new students who entered our Freshmen class were Johnny Mittelsted, Raymond Matejka, and Cecil Wallace. Mrs. Sherrod con- sented to be our sponsor, Mrs. Neve took us over before school was out. The Sophomore year was distinguished by beach parties and hay rides, under the sponsorship of our beloved English teachers Miss Partin and Mr. Hess. Our Junior year was indeed a busy one, as we sponsored the Annual Carnival. It was a gratifying successg from it we received flmds for sponsoring the Junior-Senior Banquet. Hill's Cafe pro- vided the setting for this event. Our trip to Stephen F. Austin Park was enriched by the brief time spent inspecting the sulphur mines, prison farm, and sugar refinery. Mr. and Mrs. James A. Hedricks were our sponsors. The trio joining our class this year were Marie Tacquard, Leon Freeman, and Jack Herrin. Seniors at lastl Mrs. Edmondson kindly consented to be our sponsor. New persons coming into our circle were Raymond David, Margaret Weed, Billy Jolly,Barbara Tevault, and Robbie Bodine. Words are inadequate for expressing the joy and satisfaction associated with each of the class activities . . the rings, the Alumni Reception, the a.nnual, the class play, the trips, and the parties! The Commencement, the consummation of the year, looms before us in the distance. Marais: H. 1,,m:g.:,- mgagzawzm as CLASS WILL We, the Class of 1948, do hereby declare this to be our last will and testament. These suits were mad from green satin with gold braid for tri.mming. With the girls from the previous year and a few new players, Mrs. Franks organized a very fine team. The players were Wanda Chesshir, Captain, Allena Still, Co- captaing Rosie Moore, Connie Dodds, Mary Gathrine Sckittone, Armegine Carter, Allene Konzack, Erma Locke, Lois Westmore- land, Jo Ann Gillioz, Wanda Beaver, Iris Powers, and Marie Tacquard. On January 24th, Mrs. Franks and the team went to their first tournament at Missouri City. The tea.m, fighting with all they had, came out in the consolation bracket. We tried hard to win the consolation prize, but without success. Rosie Moore was picked on the All-Tournament Team and was awarded a silver volleyball. We have several tournaments to play, and we plan and hope to win honor for Santa Fe High. Much credit for the team's fine playing and excellent sports manship goes to our wonderful friend and fine coach, Mrs. Teena Franks. Courtesy, hard work, and cooperation are the goals of each of our games. miAi.:a':Ks,.r:abef.aw.'+,:.-,,fx -wg: .gsm m, Azlgmrxfwixsmzaaasencgs. At left end was Robert Lee Marx. No matter how large or small the opponent, he had a rough time getting by Robert. The Guard positions were filled by John Jordan and Kenneth Harris, both of whom would charge through a line and stop his man with hard force. At one of the tackle posiions was Farrer Gillioz, a one hundred and ninety pound lad who could charge a line and always have a hole open for one of our backfield men to go through. The other tackle position was filled by Ruperto Mendozo, a stocky-built lad, who was a brilliant blocker and used his ability well in downfield blocking. At center was Ronald Lohec, a boy with a lot of guts, who could play all through a hard, rough game and a always come out smiling. This made him one of the best defense men on the team. On the other wing, at right end, was Raymond Matejka, a six-foot- two lad who used his height well in catching high over center passe Raymond was also a good man to have on defense. In the back field at quarterback was William Dyda., a nice ball handler and a very good blocking back. At the right half-back position was Joe Jack Tombrella. He was a nice running back and also a good defense man At the left half back position was J. E. Franks, a fast rlmning back who could snag a pass almost anywhere it was thrown to him. J. E. was also an excellent ball carrier and used his speed well in making long end sweeps, from our single wing formation. At the full back position was Ray Reifel, a 190 lb. boy who was an ex- cellent passer and ball carrier. Ray was tall and could shoot fast bullet passes over center that were always good for yardage. H8 also handled the punting chores for the Indians. The other three men who lettered and saw quite a bit of action were Raymond David, Arthur Autrey, and Willie Paul Bush. Coach Behringer is to be complimented for his well disciplined team. The Indians look forward to their second season of ll man football with courage and optimism. On a crisp fall afternoon, passing, running, calisthenics could be seen all over the gridiron. thirlv six boys had turned out for fall practice.
