The teachers are much more formal in Italy, and the students dress up much more. She enjoys the change, but she also is eager to go back home to her family and friends. As an active member of the Santa Fe Drill Team, Mara feels it is a lot of work but well worth the pleasure she gets from it. She is very enthusiastic about the competition in school sports. She takes pleasure in being able to watch people she knows competing. As you can see, Mara is taking full advantage of the co- educational system at Santa Fe. She enjoys the friendly attitude of both students and teachers, and has found many new friends. Mara and Roger spend an enjoyable evening at a Santa Fe sock hop. This is a new and exciting experience for Mara. Most exciting of all, while attending Santa Fe this year, she attended her first formal dance. The queen's outfit was just the opposite, white velvet with red fur. This was a very memorable event, with one exception! the icicles that formed on her skin. Kathleen Burton, a senior at Santa Fe, received one of the biggest thrills of her life when she was chosen from 15 other senior girls to be our Rose Parade Representative. After she was chosen, Kathleen ex- perienced many memorable events. She attended a special luncheon, and a din- ner. She was given a free course at a charm school, which she attended three times a week. Kathie also visited the float construction area, where she watched the Whittier float being built. One of the most exciting events for Kathie was the night she went to the Cal-Hi Girls' League Dance, where the queen of the float was announced. Kathleen received many gifts, a brown dyed-to-match sweater and skirt, which she wore in the Whittier Christ- mas Parade, two pairs of shoes, gloves, and a beautiful rose colored satin for- mal, that she wore to the Cal-Hi Girls' Dance. mn ' I sf S2523 VW! gg +-if Spam X -..
