CBI' st mic the n go as 11 who lh 1 ilding . EIS IP I9 5 CKHASZ5 Cigbfory 1 We, the members of the 1956 graduating class of Santa Fe High School look back to the fall of 1952 when we enrolled as freshmen. We embarked on our high school career with twenty-two members and with Mr. William H. Owens, Ir. as our class sponsor. Class officers were: Bernice Aversman--president, Iimmey Appleberry--vice-president, C. A. Daughtery--secretary, and Frank Fulkerson--treasurer. Other members of the class were Ioyce Rich, Gale Schmidt, Uretta Curry, Betty Iordan, Ellis Kappelman, Anna Beth Woodward, Darrell Lydick, Vivian Persinger, Orval Massey, Sandra Burgess, Billy Parks, Ruth Lloyd, Donald Wilson, Donna Iean Meyer, R. D. Closterman, Mary Boland, Charles Dysart, Flora Templeton, and Tommy Leahy. By the fall of 1953 we had outgrown the title of green freshmen and were entering school as silly sophomores. However, our class had decreased in number. Those who did not enroll our sophomore year were Mary Boland, Tommy Leahy, Vivian Persinger, Donald Wilson, Billy Parks, Iames Wilson, and C. A. Daughtery. Our class sponsor was Mr. Leroy Brown and the class officers were: Frank Fulkerson--president, R. D. Closterman--vice-president, Anna Beth Woodward--secretary, Iimmy Appleberry--treasurer, Sandra Burgess--reporter. Other class members were Uretta Curry, Leo Bauerle, Donna Iean Meyer, Ellis Kappelman, Orval Massey, Bernice Aversman, Charles Dysart, Ruth Lloyd, Betty Iordan, Gale Schmidt, Ioyce Rich, and N Darrell Lydick. Iimmy Appleberry received a band award his sophomore year. We nominated Uretta Curry as our candidate for the annual queen and were successful in electing her. Frank Fulkerson transferred the early part of this year and it was necessary. for R. D. Closterman to officiate as president. Now in the fall ot 1954 we re-enter Santa Fe as Iuniors with an enrollment of sixteen. This year proved to be a very active one. Class sponsor was Miss Lancaster and officers were: Anna Beth Woodward--president, R. D. Closterman--vice-president, Iimmy Appleberry--treasurer, Mary Boland--secretary, and Gale Schmidt--reporter. The remaining members were Orval Massey, Ruth Lloyd, Donna Iean Meyer, Susie Burgess, Charles Dysart, Ellis Kappelman, Flora Templeton, Betty Iordan, Bernice Aversman, Uretta Curry, and Bobby Dysart. We were sorry not to have Leo Bauerle, Darrell Lydick, and Nellie Robison back with us. However, we were happy to welcome Mary Boland back after having been away during our sophomore year. This year we were fortunate in winning the trip sponsored by the P.T.A. Mrs. Oscar Schmidt and Betty Lancaster were our chaperons on this trip to Kansas City and our bus was driven by Mr. Iohn Hollis. This proved to be a most enjoyable day. We ate lunch at Swope Park, attended the ball game where we saw the Kansas City Athletics play the Baltimore Orioles. After the game we had our evening meal at the Forum and topped the evening by taking in a movie. Anna Beth Woodward--Methodist, Susie Burgess--Christian, and Iimmy Appleberry--Baptist, were the candidates for the award given by the United Churches of Saline County. Ellis Kappelman was chosen to attend Boy's State at Warrensburg on the C. M. S. C. campus. Mary Boland was chosen for Gi.rl's State which was held at Fulton at William Woods College. V 19
