-4 ..,.--- .-s-...ALS-ingh.--L..4., 44. r, , The delicious meal was served by lower classmen in appfopriate d to the music of Lee Brandt's Band. This ambitious class again won the P.T.A- f1'iP- We again journeyed to Excelsior Springs, since we enjoyed ourselves so much the preceding year we just had to go back. Two members of our class were sent to Girls' and BOYS State by the Waverly American Legion. They were .Toyce Smith, who went to William Woods College at Fulton, and Lawrence Biesemeyer, who went to C.Ivi.S.C. at Warrensburg- Barbara McKnight and Joyce Smith attended the typing and bookkeeping contests respective- ly at Warrensburg. A number of the girls and boys from our class helped represent the glee club and band in the music contest at Warrensburg. Listed are the juniors who made the team that year: Lawrence Biesemeyer, Donnie Schreier, Darrel Lynn, and Frances Snodgrass. Barbara McKnight was an attendant to the annual queen. Cecelia Valentine, Glenn Weedin and Douglas Fiene undertook the task of helping lead the cheers for our much favored basketball teams. We lost B. R. Tohnson and gained Bob Templeton as classmates. 1-ess, Later we danced And now the most important year of all--the year of 1955i Mr. Coffelt is the sponsor with Barbara McKnight as president, Oscar Schmidt Ir.-vice-president, Celia Utlaut- reporter, and Gerald Lane-giftorian. The class was very happy to have Joyce Chrisman reign as home-coming queen. This year we were happy to add to our class .Tames Hutcherson, but we were sad to lose George Kelling, Hazel Smith, Tommy Foose, and Floyd Smith. Yes, 1943 was a great year, but 1955 stands out even more in the memories of those who started their school career a long twelve years ago. We leave with unspoken joyful thanks, a twinge of sadness, and a heart filled with hope. These are the memories of our school and our education. .v.u.uu..x.u. we danced rip. We receding Boys' lliam W oods burg. respective- - sent the who made Frances . lentine , r our much clas smates . he sponsor tlaut- hrisman es e, and Floyd s of those en joyful ies of our Senior Trip April ls-ls, 195 Af approximately 4:20 A-M-a F1'idaYf April 15, twenty-eight sleepy-eyed seniors and sponsors entered Sunnyside Cafe. After a slight delay, we departed at 4:45 for the wondrous splendor of the Ozark Mountains. Our small caravan of five cars jogged along merrily toward our destination until we had to make an emergency stop at Sedalia. It was now nearing the hour of seven and our stom- achs told us it was time for breakfast. Since the seniors of the previous year had breakfasted in Versailles we decided to give the fair city our business also. , Following a hearty meal, we journeyed on towards the wilds of the Ozarks. A brief stop was made shortly after breakfast for gas. We arrived at Bagnell Dam at 8:32 A.M,, which was two minutes late for the guided tour through the power plant, The next tour was at 9:30 so it was decided to motor on to Kirkwood Lodge. On our way from Bagnell to Kirkwood we stopped at an observation tower, where we enjoyed a very pleasant view of the lake region. When we arrived at the Lodge, located in Osage Beach, Missouri, we were asked to go to the Terrace Room for an explanation of the rules and regulations. We then received our room assignments, unpacked our wrinkled clothes, and readied ourselves for a very enjoyable week end. Lunch was served from 12:00 to 1:00, afterwards the afternoon was spentiin boating, eating, dancing, playing ping-pong, or just resting our weary bones. A very delicious and filling smorgasbord dinner was served at 5:00 P,M, From 6:00 to 7:30 the time was spent i.n taking pictures, dancing, and digesting our food. At 72,30 the ex- cursion boat, Governor McClurg, dropped its gangplank on the sandy beach where we were all waiting to go aboard. The captain greeted us as we stepped on the deck, and we seated our- selves at the tables. The warm starlit night was spent in a continuous round of dancing and singing. There were other schools on board but Santa Fe had the largest representation. Ten o'clock came much too soon, and we all sorrowfully left the Governor McClurg, We had one consolation, there would be square dancing at the Lodge, We were taught the fundamen- tals of square dancing before we attempted to participate in this Ozark tradition. After an hour of dancing, we were classed as first rate hillbillies and received our Hillbilly Diplomies. Immediately following the graduation, there was a Wiener roast on the beach. The rest of the evening was spent in singing, dancing, playing ping,-pong, watching television, or just plain talking. Twelve-thirty--lights out and everyone settled down for a much needed nap. The next m01'ning after a hearty breakfast we threw our clothes in suitcases, said good-bye to our new-made friends, and headed for the Bridal Cave. On the way we stopped to see a collection of antique cars and music boxes. The boys gave the cars a once over while the girls spent all their nickels in the music boxes. From there we journeyed on to Bridal Cave. We enjoyed a beautiful scenic tour through it, although we were a bit damp from the moisture of the cave. ' Upon leaving we spent considerable time and money in the gift shop of the cave. By that time it was nearing noon, so we hurried back to Camdenton and ate lunch. W Mr. Coffelt, our sponsor, called Sedalia, Missouri and rented the skating rink there. After a short stop at Gravois Mills, we arrived in Sedalia at 3.:30. Two hours and many tum- bles later we decided to leave Sedalia and the skating rl-nk behind and drwe on to Marshall' We ate a light Supper at the Valley Drive-ln and then slept through a double feature show. Approximately 11:30 P,M., Saturday,AP1'i1 16, 'fWentY'ei8ht S1eePY'eYed' Sunburned' and dirty seniors and sponsors returned to Sunnys-ide Cafe. This W5-S '31 tiring experience buf one that will remain in our Collection of pleasant senior memories forever. V ,, , , i - i . . 1 -AA., - x K . , - , ,
