The opening ceremonies in- cluded class banners and cheering competition. The lighting of a torch symbol- izes good sportsmanship. Soccer and hockey were the first sports played. Now, the intra-class competition is held with volleyball as the sport played. The Word Schagas comes from Santa Cruz High School Girls' Athletic Association. Many improvements have been made and add to the excitement and pageantry of this day held at the end of volleyball season. y ' zur. 611,11 W :mars Kneeling Marty Hurst Arden Spain Lynn Phillips Pat Har rell Glenda Ienkms Standmg Marcia Tobey Iamce Schultz Iackie Diener Colleen Coulter Barbara Ellzey 1 ' 1 1 1 ' 1 - - 1 1 1 1 - JACKIE DIENI-IR, Honor Student Z7mrl Wmrcr far Walters Numeral Wmrcrs S 6 l6'loc'k Wmrers 1 mqgprsawwwf Sm! ' v- Friuerjwzls Message ,I 1944. LEE SIMS, NEW PRINCIPAL OF S.C.H.S. This is another in a long series of annual re- views of activities of Santa Cruz High School students. But to those now in high school, and to me, this is the most important of such records. It is the most important to me because it records the events of my first year in Santa Cruz High School. The year has been an enjoyable one. I have found you a friendly and cooperative student body. It is my earnest hope that each of you have gained through your associations here, the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will best serve you in your future school work, in serving your country at war, and in establishing a satisfying post-war life in a peaceful, democratic world. Cure messages and siyteerz years sereiee from zz man seeres of students and faculty members will tzeeer forget. 1959, LEE SIMS RETIRES lt has been a privilege to serve as principal of Santa Cruz High School for the past sixteen years. During this time the school has grown from 650 students to more than twice that number in the three upper grades, and has expanded its offering accordingly. During this time l have had the pleasure of knowing and working with many hundreds of young people. l know I will miss these associations in the years to come. l wish success for all and ask of those who return that they give a full measure of loyalty and support to the new administration, that Santa Cruz High School may preserve and extend its friendly helpfulness to future generations. s I 'fi E -' lf.
