I LIKE TO SEE A MAN PROUD 0F THE PLACE7 N WHICH HE LIVES AND SO LIVE THAT THE PLACE ILL BE PRDUD OF HI . Dear Seniors, This year has been filled with exciting events for me and I hope for you, too. I want to thank everyone who made this year the best one in my 18 yea rs of life. The good relations among students and between stu- dents and teachers made it a pleasure to go to Santa Clara High. Your hospitality and friendship have done a great deal to help inter- national understanding and I sincerely hope more students can have the same opportunity that I have had. When I go back to Sweden I will have a wonderful memory of the happy senior year here with you. All your serious attempts to help me understand your problems and differ- ent ways of thinking have helped me to realize the difficulties you meet in life. When you go out into the adult world always remember Aldous HuxIey's words: Experience is not what happens to you, it is what you do with what happens to you . Hendrik Houtkamp Eleven months can go very quickly. Every day was filled with new ex- periences and impressions. I soon found out that people do not differ very much from each other, no matter where they live or what nation- ality they are. When I came over to the United States, I was a little bit scared that the people would always look at me as the German and not as me . Fortunately, it changed soon, and I was known as lVluschi Whitmore . I liked being at Santa Clara High School very much. Highlights dur- ing the year were the Powder Puff football games, in which I enjoyed the fullback position, the Christmas Dance, and Senior activities. The Senior Ball formed a dignified end of a wonderful year. l'd like to say thank you to Youth For Understanding , to the Whit- more family for treating me as one of their own, to the faculty and student body at S.C. High forthe hospitality, warmth, and friendship. Auf Wiedersehen! Gisela Blankma nn I came to America without any expectations, trying to be very im- partial and as open to new experiences as possible. At first your big country confused me and made me scared. I felt like hiding. But later, when the language no longer trapped me and I was able to understand people, I began to learn new things about life and people. You have all been very friendly and nice to me. I want to thank everybody. I feel free here. Finland is the country in which l was born and raised and I love it-its beautiful lakes and forests under the snow and cold sun of winter, or the pale and mystical midnight sun. But CaIifornia's sun warms me with freedom and the sea brings the heart of life close to me. I shall go to Finland this summer, butl am coming back here. - Sirpanne

SENIOR CLASS PICKS FACULTY FAVORITE Whenever a problem arose with schedules, teachers, or college entrance exams, he was there ready to help. His cheerful smile anc jolly laugh, along with his buoyant personality made him popular with fellow faculty members and students alike. He was found at all senior activities, and helped to make his class one of the finest in the history of Santa Clara l-ligh. For all these reasons, and more, the CLASS OF '68 voted MR VINCENT BRIARE Faculty Favorite. The seniors thank him for his guidance and cooperation in their four years and as graduates they will look back with fondness on the days at high school because of lVlr. Bri- are.
