When we were Frosh, it was a very good year CLASS OF 1968 ... sure sounds good, doesn't it? ... but it seemed like a long way off, back there in '65 when we entered those sacred gates as trembling Freshmen We were the babies then and no one would let us forget it We made friends fast by dancing our way into S.C.'s heart at the Freshman Reception given in our honor by the Sophomores ... What a thrill it was to buy a student body card .., go to the night games ... and yell with the rest, SC IS KING Excitement hit the campus as our very first Class Elections came up .., Pat Galos took over the leadership of our new class with Cliff Henderson VP and Linda Chandler Secretary- Treasurer ... What a year ... Soon Homecoming sprang up to meet us head-on ... ribbons buttons, block sweaters, and activities filled our nights and days SC was alive and vibrant with action ... until ... Disaster . .. we were defeated at the Big Game ... but came back with the faithful line ... Wait till next year Between the frenzy of life and the fright of finals we tried to study . .. Who could forget Pip and Great Expectations or Myths and Their Meanings . , . Our first year rushed by leaving us more a part of SC with each day and hour ... by Easter Vacation we had about learned the way of things and were ready for the fast trip over the hill to Cruz . .. Did we ever believe it would be so wild? ... It ended all too soon and once again it was back to the grind back to homework and tests ... The Class of '65 was finally beginning to make plans for their graduation We envied them getting out of school ... how little we knew . .. our turn was coming faster than any of us could suspect . .. The last week of school we were presented our first TOCSIN ... How great it all seemed ... Next year would be greater than ever we knew it had to be. Y, M SOPHOMORES We had been promoted one notch and it sure felt good to get out from under the Seniors thumbs . .. We knew our way around now and so just smiled when we saw a poor freshman ... Remember . , , that was the yearthe girls took over ... We elected an all-girl executive board ,.. Linda Chandler, President, Nancy Lawton VP and Sue Souza, Secre- tary-Treasurer ... The upperclassmen laughed .,, but we showed them by soon becoming strong in all we did ... We beat the Seniors at competition rallies and found we were developing into the best class SC had ever seen ... We did our homework .., at least, sometimes ... and swung into social action ... Football and Spirit Week was exasperating but exciting ... We beat Buchser and were awaken with the fact that we were KING ... that was the year we were awarded with our very own dance, the Basket-Ball ... Of'course there was always studying to be done .., Juluis Caesar and The Tale of Two Cities ,,. but the year disappeared ,.. We attended our second Nominating Convention and joined in the confusion there ... Again graduation surrounded us but we were on the outside .., TOCSINS were distributed and we set out to get as many autographs as possible and then there was sum- mer.

Wow! We finally made it Back from a long hot summer, we were now UPPER classmen TT T Mighty JUNIORS T T T Once again we went to the polls and elected Kevin McDonough, President, Jim Hidalgo, VP, and Sue Souza Secretary-Treasurer The year took on a new feeling T T T Things were chang- ing fast T T T a rumor was circulating that the old building was going to be torn down TTT and then-horrors the rumor became reality T T T at a board meeting, attended by a capacity crowd Cmany of us were therej it was decided that students from SC would be put on split session with the Buchser Bruins We didn't like that very well T T T but there was nothing we could do TTT some cried, others argued and the alumni were filled with sen- timental sorrow Remember the last day of school before the switch we stood around in the old main building and every- thing was quiet T T T then the assembly and we sang the alma mater with a lump in our throats we said Good-bye to the grand old building Then-to Buchser lt was different all-right TTT but exciting! T T T espe- cially before the Big Game T T T Spirit was high and after battering the Bruins we walked the campus as if we owned it TTT Between all the changes, we frantically hit the books reading Red Badge of Courage or the one about the lady with the big red A TTT and US History Back on our own campus we found that nothing was really too different except some funny little boxes had been put up behind the tennis courts and those boxes were to be our classrooms we began to make plans for our one big affair of the year the Junior Prom Held on April first it appropriately took the title Spring Moments T T T it was praised as being one of the best in the history of SC High TTT and we were proud between making flower trees in Sue Souza's kitchen and desperately decorating tables on Friday night TTT we finished T T T but turning on our beau- tifully expensive water fountain TTT we found it leaked but it was a glorious night May disappeared TTT and once again we watched our superiors, the class of '67 begin plans for graduation TTT Midnight blue TOC- SINS embossed with the gold school seal. were presented to us after finals Thurs- day night as we watched many of our friends walk down the football field to become graduates T T T we realized that soon we, too, would be graduating T T T That sum- mer, a few members of the class of '68 draped a loving sign over the front of the old building T T T lt read T T T Rest in Peace' ',,. and in a few weeks our build- ingwasgone T T T lt was upon us TTT our SENIOR year TT Bill Thompson, our new student body President. began the first day of school by reminding the student body that this year would be built on pride TTT We had no building to show only the pride within us to prove SC was still KING TTT a large hole had replaced our build- ing but we remembered it wasn't the building but the students who make up the school We elected the last leaders of our class Don Peterson, President, Hendrick l-loutkamp, VP, and Kathy Whitmore, Secre- tary-Treasurer Spirit was at an all-time high TTT even though we did lose to Buchser at the Big Game as in our Frosh year we replied, Wait until next year, but then suddenly realized we wouldn't be here next year TTT Mr. Briare's office became the local hang-out T TT with college entrance ex- ams, scholarships, and everything piling down upon us TTT it just couIdn't be happen- ing The Senior Executive Board was elected and, with the guidance of Mr. Holiday. began to plan for the most fantastic year of our lives Senior pictures were taken the snow trip was planned TTT La Rinconada was picked for the Senior Ball T T T and life was passing fast T T T we were still at the studying role everyone taking Mr. Meyers psy- chology course in American Problems began to think they were crazy T TT with finals out of the way we began to breathe again TTT what a year Mr, Holliday began to get money signs in his eyes and we knew what time it was announcements, namecards, and all sorts of little goodies were ordered T T T our social life was more active than ever T T T the Senior Social T T T then later the picnic and at last our last formal affair, the Senior Ball T T T and soon June ap- proached T T T Graduation was held T T T we saluted our leaders, our foreign ex- change students, Hendrick, Gisela, and Sirpa T T T we thanked Mr. Holliday and asked for refunds T T T and applauded the patience of Mr. Briare, our loving coun- selor and guide T T T it was really gradua- tion night T T T we sauntered down the football field to take our places on the plat- form T T T Trembling, we received our diplomas and knew our high school days were over T T T circling the field we took the hands of our many friends T T Hail Santa Clara, we sing to thy praise T we look around use T T T t'Loud in thy honor our voices we raise T T the old building was gone, the portables stood, resting so peaceful and calm neath the sky T T and now we are leaving fondly we love thee' 'TTT in a matter of minutes we would be attending the all-night party as alumni T T T we were graduates T T T Our dearSC High T T See Ya Round T T T 15
