ALUMNI ASSOCIATICDN 496 Throughouf a career which began many years ago, fhe Sanfa Clara Alumni Associafion has ac- complished much. The chief proiecf of The As- sociafion, however, for fhe lasf few years, has been fhe esfablishmenf and furfherance of fhe scholarship fund which was founded in l93O, af which fime no name had been chosen for if. Buf in i932 The fund was given fhe 'rifle of fhe Charles W. Townsend Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of fhe lafe C. W. Townsend, principal of Sanfa Clara High School. Af fhe fime fhe fund was esfablished every faculfy member in fhe Sanfa Clara school sys- fem confribufed a cerfain amounf fo add fo if. Alumni were asked fo give whaf fhey could, also, fo furfher fhe proiecf. 1 Sihce l93O, insfead of a class giff fo fhe school, fhe senior classes have given fhe pro- ceeds of fheir annual dramafic presenfafions fo be added fo fhe scholarship fund. ln l932 fhe seniors also gave fhe profifs made fhrough fhe sale of candy af fhe senior play. Lasf year fhe Parenf-Teachers Associafion and The Sanfa Clara Alumni Associafion cooperafed fo hold a whisi' parfy in fhe Liffle Theafre for fhe benefif of fhe scholarship fund. Again fhis year. on May 22, fhe Parenf-Teachers Associa- fion and fhe Alumni Associafion collaborafed in giving a whisf parfy. Alumni had charge of fhe prizes and sale of ficlcefs. One-half of fhe pro- O ceeds of fhe whisf parfy wenf info fhe scholar- ship fund. x ln June of lasf year Wilda lvlerrif, Leona Prueff, and Alberf Casfro were awarded scholar- ships made possible fhrough fhe Charles W. Townsend Memorial Scholarship Fund. Scholar- ships presenfed each year are payable upon fhe winner's regisfrafion in a college or universify. ln previous years only fwo scholarships had been given in one year, one fo a boy and one fo a girl. Recipienfs of fhese awards since fhe scholarship fund was esfablished were lvlargaref Dunipace and Melvin Renquisf in I93l, Dolores Freifas and Scoff Kay in I932, Margarei' Sher- man and Bill lvlagisfreffi in I933, and fhe fhree sfudenfs receiving awards lasf year.
