Q- ' .figelo flfi iQQ,'x.tCiiL'14Cff11-1 Senior Class The class of 1928 came into the high school in 1921 with 122 registered as fresh- men. Only forty-four have survived and are ready to graduate. Despite its size, the class has been distinguished by its spirit and sportsmanship in class as well as in the various outside activities. The annual agony of choosing the rings and pins was finished in November, and a very neat-looking style was chosen. The senior dance. as usual, was the first. and undoubtedly, in the opinion of the seniors at least, the best of the season. The dancers threaded their way in and out of a perfect forest of Christmas trees. A large glistening snowball hung in the center of long garlands of greens stretching to the corners added to the effect of a midwinter scene. The first senior program was given November 17, with Major Mitchell as the main speaker. The auditorium filled with students listened attcntively to his talk on disarmament and self-protection. The second program was an interesting presenta- tion of folk dancing and music. The second annual basketball tilt between the seniors and the faculty proved to be another success. It is to be noted that the score Qresulting, of course, in favor of the seniorsj was much closer than the score last year, being 16 to 17. In scholarship, the class feels proud of the fourteen seniors who were on the honor roll, and they are also proud of Dorothy Stewart and lValdo Sherman, who won the interclass spelling match. On the athletic field the seniors have contributed a great deal to the strength of the respective teams. Such stars as the Mclntyrc boys, Castro, Parmer, Drutfel, S. George, Giannini, Trigueiro, Ikeda, Hoffman and Olsen have been drawn from this class. For two successive years the class of ,28 has won the interclass track cup. in spite of the heavy competition put up by the other classes. The class picnic was held on May 15 at Santa Cruz. and the usual cases of sun- burn resulted. Baby Day was also a feature of the year. At that time the seniors returned to their second childhood and, dressed as little children, played with each other in the halls. Under the able leadership of Miss Coeke and Mr. Knaus, the seniors have set a high record, and with these honors the class of 1928 closes the book of its history in the Santa Clara Union High School.
